What protocols are supported by SH2 as NAS?

I have an external hard drive connected via USB to the SH2 acting as a NAS. This works well for backup, for file sharing between devices on our network and, until recently, as a music library for a Sonos Move.

I'd like to know what communications protocols are supported by the SH2 for communication with the connected drive, whether I have any influence over what is being used and, if so, how I can alter the configuration. There doesn't seem to be anything configurable via the SH2.

The underlying issue seems to be that Sonos have removed support for SMB1 and I rather suspect that the SH2 supports SMB1 only. In which case I am 'stuffed' but I'd like to know for sure whether that is the case, and whether there is any 'get out of jail' card available to me ...

The SH2 only supports SMB1.

There are no configuration options available.
