Cabinet full

PLEASE HELP

I am so beyond stressed. We have just moved house and found out our property was never connected to a broadband line. We live on a new build estate and all our neighbours have WiFi apart from us.
We have a BT engineer coming tomorrow as they sent us a hub and advised we could have a copper line running at 4Mbps. I work from home and currently on unpaid leave because I can’t work- we have no connection.However yesterday morning I looked on the broadband availability checker for our cabinet and it said available, I was over the moon. Then this morning I’ve checked again and it’s back to waiting list. How is this possible?! There are a load of new houses due to have people moving into in September, how are they going to get wifi?
I am at my wits end. Please try and help me

If the cabinet's full it's full. Nothing can be done about that other than jumping in quick before anyone else when the checker shows available as someone has ceased their service.

Seems odd that you don't have FTTP available to you in a new build property.

When I saw it was available yesterday I rang BT yesterday straight away and he said as I’ve got engineer coming Monday it’ll be sorted then.

I don’t see how someone has got in before me? It’s quite a small estate and I was told by BT they don’t have appointments on a Saturday so how would it even be possible? Unless it’s us that has taken the spot in the cabinet? I just don’t know!!!

I have no idea what FTTP is if I’m honest, I don’t have a clue about any of this, all I know is that we have no connection

Are you sure your property developer didn't choose a alt net to deploy their own ful fibre network?

An alt net is an alternative network infrastructure provider compared to Openreach.

Taylor Wimpy, Barrett Homes and some other property developers usually use an alt net.

The site manager should be able to say who they used.

Some checkers such as the ones below can also be used as a guide to see what broadband infrastructure networks are available

@ellaswanson20 BT told me that Openreach had no Fibre installations in our area for 3-6 months and they also didn't do Saturday installations. Our new ISP arranged an Openreach fibre installation in 3 days and on a Saturday so me thinks BT aren't being entirely truthful with what they're telling you.

No, I don’t think so.

all our neighbours have WiFi and broadband, cavana homes have said it’s not an issue with them

Yep doesn't look like there's anything other then Openreach FTTC which is full and will need to wait until a spare port becomes available. It's first come first serve.

It's just unfortunate that your property developer didn't register the new build site with Openreach as that would have meant you would have full fibre available and capacity would have been catered for. Openreach offer free build out of their full fibre infrastructure to new builds greater than 19 plots. The property developer needs to register for this though

While you try and sort this @ellaswanson20 , have you checked on 4G/5G availability at your location?

Assuming one of the big 4 (EE, Three, Vodafone or O2) have decent coverage, you can grab an unlimited SIM with a Mobile Virtual Network Operator on a 30 day contract and a 4G/5G router off of Amazon or similar to tide you over and get you online for work.

we do have a 4g ee smart hub at the minute, was working fine but I work from home and for some reason it doesn’t work at all with my work laptop, it’s really bizarre.

So we are looking to get this cancelled as don’t want to be paying out for for two hubs?

What have your work IT said? Do they know you are using a 4G router?

They might need to change something in your laptop config. I bet it is a VPN issue or similar.

sorry for delay. No my IT at work have just sent me a new device. Said the problem must be with EE. They could be right as have noticed the 4g hub doesn’t work for Netflix , any Alexa product or my ring door bell. It’s all very frustrating

The EE 4G hubs use a shared public IP address (CGNAT), so some devices/services will not function, as they need to see a unique public IP address.

Some mobile broadband providers, like Three, do allocate a unique dynamic public IP address as one of their APNs. You still need a proper 4G router to use this feature, and they are more expensive (£70) than the basic 4G hubs.
