Upgraded to 900Mbs, but getting nowhere near those sort of speeds.

I have been using 500Mbs Full-Fiber and my speeds were great. Always around 450 to 500 Mbs as promised.

Yet, a few days ago I decided to upgrade to 900Mbs internet, but there is barely any difference. My speeds went from

around 450 to around 500-550. Some 400 less than my estimated speeds.

So what are my options? Could it be because I am using WIFI? (I have wi-fi 6 built into my motherboard, max download of 888 Mbs)

Is it worth trying ethernet? I haven't because my computer is not in the same room as my router.

If all else fails, what are my options? I could apply for the 20 quid rebate, but I would be better off going back to my 500 contract I think.

Any advice?

I've been considering getting a long ethernet cable, but if I do, can anyone tell me the best kind? One capable of 900mbs transfer? Would any work or do I need a specific type?

Even really sexy WIFI equipment will struggle to get above 600Mbps without ideal conditions and semi-pro setup.

500Mbps is a good WIFI result.

A cat5e cable will be fine for 1000Mbps over 100Meters, there is of course higher rated cat6 cables but generally for alot of use cat5e is still a perfectly usable cable. I am still using mostly cat5e on a 2500Mbps network, works without issue.

Hi,

I found a old ethernet cable from when I had virgin, I tried it with latest drivers, and in the hardware section it says the connection is (1000mbs down/1000mbs up) - but strangely enough, all speed tests I try say it is now running even slower than wi-fi, a pretty steady 300mbs or so.

Could this be because of the cable? The ethernet I'm using is built into my mobo, which is, asus tuf gaming b660-plus - and the controller is, Intel(R) Ethernet Controller (3) I225-V

Actually it's now working full speed. I think steam might have been downloading in the background. I get a solid 900mbs + now.

Thanks for your help.
