I'm afraid this makes little sense. Firstly, why did you change it? Is this a new broadband setup or are you just changing the socket?

UK phones don't generally have RJ11 connectors & if the do, they're supplied with an adapter to BT431. Master sockets do not have RJ45 connections for the phone. How was the phone connected previously?

RJ45 from the router is only used on Full Fibre connections, where it connects to an ONT rather than a master socket. Hence the question if this is a new setup.

The images you have posted appear correct, so are they your actual products?

Hello all,

I've removed my old master socket (on the left in the image) and replaced with a new one (on the right in the image).

I've gone to plug in the cable from my router but the broadband socket on the new router is for RJ11 and my plug is RJ45. Also the socket on the master socket for the phone is RJ45 but the plug from the phone is RJ11.

So, the master socket sockets seem to be the wrong way round for my plugs.

Please can anyone advise what might have gone wrong here, and how I can put it right?

Have I simply purchased the wrong master socket product?

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

Yes those images are my products.

This is an image of the plug from my phone. But this is the wrong shape and size to fit in the new master socket telephone port. The port is bigger. This one half of the problem that I can't figure out.

Also apologies, as after spending a lot of time looking at this online I realise I may not be using the correct terminology. SO I'll revert to sharing images rather than risk describing the parts incorrectly.

You haven't answered the question of why you changed the socket in the first place although the sockets will be exactly the same.

As @Anonymous says, UK phones don't normally have an rj11 plug.

You just need an rj11-BT 431 adapter to convert the phone plug

The Port on the Right Hand Side fits a Standard RJ11 Cable used for your Router.

The one on the Right is for a Standard British 431A.

If you’re using an RJ11 Cable for your Phone you’d need to get an Adapter to plug it into the 431A Phone Port.

It sounds like you have the cables mixed up between your phone and router.

The router should be the same small square dsl plug both ends and plugs in to the left on the socket,(little router pictured, your phone may have a square plug one end to plug in to the phone base, and should be a flatter PSTN plug the other (clip on one side) OR you are missing an adaptor.

As @licquorice says, we really need all the questions answered, including how the phone was connected previously.

That does indeed appear to be an RJ11 so you need one of these.

I changed the socket as it stopped working when we plugged everything back in after unplugging to do some decorating. I saw online that there's a filter in the old socket and that may have stopped working. SO swapped to a new master socket. I have a feeling of embarrassing dread now as I wonder if my wife reconnected the cables to the phone and router the wrong way round. DO you know if the image above is the correct type of plug that you'd find at the end of the phone cable?

Typically a DSL cable is as shown above by @tonysmini018, RJ11 both ends.

A UK telephone cable typically has an RJ11 one end that plugs into the phone & a BT431 the other that plugs into the master socket.

So if the cables were removed from the devices, which both have RJ11 sockets, it's entirely possible to mix them up.

You had 2 plugs plugged into 2 sockets previously, they just needed moving to the 2 identical sockets in the new box.

Can't see how you can get it wrong.
