In preparation for a regrade to FTTP from FTTC in a week or two, I’ve swapped over my Smart Hub to a Smart Hub 2. Having had the original Smart Hub for a year or three I was curious to see what FTTC speeds I was getting on the new one. On MyBT to the hub it showed a slower download of 66Mbps compared to 69Mbps of the SH1. But the same upload at 19Mbps.
But the WiFi (to the device) was rather odd. It shows 66Mbps download.

But only 10Mbps upload. On my old Smart Hub the WiFi speeds consistently matched the speeds to the Hub. Upload and Download

Can anyone shed a light on what’s going on?

Other than plugging the DSL line into the hub and seeing if toggling the FTTP mode made any difference - which it didn’t. And knew it was very unlikely. I did wonder if it might’ve improved the download to the hub marginally, but no.

So for my trouble it seems I’ve got a marginally worse overall download speeds - though I suppose it’ll improve over the next few days and I’ll be moving to FTTP in any case - But seem to a landed with this odd behaviour with the WiFi.

Any thoughts and advice would be most welcome.

A drop from 69Mbps to 66Mbps is within the realms of what just happens. Try again, and you'll probably see different results again. Speed tests on the laptop I'm using right now can vary by 15% depending on how far I am from the router, how the laptop is oriented, and what level of power saving I'm using.

Well I’m pleased to say that a factory reset sorted it.

Now getting the same speeds to my WiFi device ( happens to be an iPhone at this time) as I’m getting to the hub.

So perhaps if things aren’t as expected after a restart then a factory reset is a good next step.

Well I spoke too soon. It’s back to how I reported it above. Download on WiFi matches hub speed but upload is about half that of the hub speed. Will need to do a bit more digging.

Sorted it.. Loads of humble pie needed. I restarted my iPhone that I was using for the tests and all is now well.. Should’ve checked other devices before posting. But in my defence it’s so much easier using the MyBT on the phone and getting the comparison than trying to get the same info on a desktop. It seems the speed test through the web version is no longer available.

I find it better to use Ookla or Fast.com as internet speed testers on desktops, laptops and mobile phones. Much better than the BT provided testers.

@chrisjp Thanks for the suggestion. Understand about using fast.com etc but, unless I’m mistaken, they don’t also give the hub speed for comparison. Whereas MyBT does.
