Problem is that unless you are incredibly lucky, you'll only get FTTP now, and are likely to only have OpenReach as the infrastructure supplier - so it's quite possible you may also see issues with FTTP supplied by others.

BT Hub 2 Awful ?

So we are due to go live in the morning but I have read that the wifi on the Hub 2 tops out at 500mbps and only has 3 lan ports on it. What router would be best to use with BT FTTP 900 ? I would much rather not use the router they provide as it is sub par.

Help appreciated !!

I believe the maximum WiFi sync speed on the Smart Hub 2 is 1732Mbps, but very few clients can manage a sync speed of more than 866Mbps, leading to an actual connection speed somewhat below this, but definitely north of 500Mbps. As for the three Ethernet ports, it's only one fewer than is common, and adding a cheap switch is easy enough. Additionally if you don't use the BT supplied router, you also wont be able to use BT digital Voice.

Me - I use an Asus router with a couple of AsusMesh units for my 30+ WiFi devices, others here will swear by Ubiquity, or swear (sometimes unjustly) at TP-Link.

Maybe if you point us at your intended usage scenario, with your absolute requirements, along with things that you'd like but arent strictly necessary, then we could try to point you towards suitable kit!

No one uses a phone line in this day and age. We have mobile phones on contract. Read that the hub was poor so going to look into a different router. We have KCOM already installed and their FTTP has been perfect but the price is going up in February so were trying out BT to see if it is good enough to replace our KCOM connection. We shall see, I am sceptical that it will be as good as KCOM to be honest, we have never had a drop out and out 900mbps connection actually is over 1gb. Only reason we are trying BT is its £25 a month cheaper than KCOM will be.

So no one uses a landline today, Really? I wish more people did as I would have better quality conversations with those who have got rid of theirs and phone me from their mobile to my landline. Sometimes we have to curtail our chats as they have poor reception in their areas or insist on phoning me when they are out and about. Unfortunately it's a modern disease and they are welcome to carry on with it if they insist on being in constant contact with people 24/7 - I don't.

Nah we have KCOM and they have their own infrastructure. We were only going to leave because the price was going up to £70 a month. We have only had two disconnections in two years with them and that was for maintenance.

Most people have mobile phones now. Cancelled with BT anyways. Was in the 14 day cooling off period and their service was god awful. Will be sticking with our proper FTTP connection, at least it won't disconnect in a slight breeze.

Personally, I would expect most people's FTTP to be solid. My own setup here is more complex than most, but not as complex as some. But I have to expect that everything should work, and shouldn't require others to jump through hoops to get it to work. We end up in a very strange place if we accept that flaky is okay.
