Connect Sony Bravia direct to router

I connect my 7 year old Panasonic TV direct to my mesh, by ethernet. I don't use a SmartHub (but may shortly have to for DV). I can watch masses of Apps (e.g, Arte.tv and Netflix without any other box. I don't have a BTTV package. I get my full line speed.

I have a friend with a 14 year old Sony Bravia which seems to have all the same facilities: like wired Network and it even brings up a connection ref (198. etc) when cable connected. The built in help app shows pictures of the screen with App images but with no idea how to find it.

But then it says contact Sony "<2200>". Any ideas on what we might be doing wrong?

New thought: maybe the 198. etc address that came up was just a default in the Bravia? I should get the proper address from the router itself.
