I've tried two rounds of typing-in-the-box-to-a-tech-support-guy-in-India (total time - three hours) so am hoping I can actually get an answer from you guys.

I have a BT Home Hub 2, and all I want to do is turn off my Wi-fi at night.

By this I mean turn off the transmitter in the hub, NOT just stop individual devices from connecting

Step One:

Log into 'Hub Manager' (192.168.1.254) in a browser tab

Go to 'Advanced Settings>Access Control'- I'm told 'Access controls are now managed using the app'

Step Two:

Get the 'My BT' app [We'll gloss over what a colossal PITA setting up the app was..]

In the app go to 'Your wi-fi network > Control wi-fi access'

On this page I get a list of the 'X devices now connected to your wi-fi'

I can go into each device individually, and there are various options to pause wi-fi access at times of my choosing. Great.

However, it's NOT permitted to pause access for the device you're using to run the app - so that means its permanently connected - and there's NO option I can see to just switch off the entire wi-fi network at a specific time.

This seems absolutely crazy- do I really need to power off the router every night, and turn it back on in the morning (or use a timer on the plug feeding it to do this)?

Surely there's an option to just switch off the transmitter - what am I missing?

You don't need access control.

Simply go to Hub Manager > Advanced Settings > Wireless and simply turn off the wifi toggles for both bands or toggle 'Disable all wireless'

Obviously you will need to connect to the hub via Ethernet to restore WiFi.

Thanks - have actually done that in the past, but it's probably more work than powering the router off and back on.

Surely this can be automated?

I'm sure it /could/ be..

Seems like an oversight with a very straightforward fix

All things 'can' be done, but they incur a cost. Presumably BT did a cost/benefit exercise and decided it didn't cost in.

Possibly. The way they've implemented the current device-by-device access control can't have been straightforward, and is far from ideal
