No Internet...trying to connect Tp-link router to Openreach Master socket 5c.

I have a BT Smarthub 2, connected to the Openreach Master socket 5c with an RJ11 cable ( Rj11 connector at each end). Works fine tho had it years and thought maybe a new router might improve the signal quality...also like the idea of having a proven backup.

I have a new Tp-link AX1500 wifi6 router.

Connected that to the Master socket with a new RJ11 to Rj45 (ethernet) cable.

The Tp-link router powers on, the two wifi channels 2.4ghz and 5ghz are on and I can connect to the router wifi from any device....but there is no internet. Internet indicator on the router is off.

I read about a microfilter, but I believe that is built into the master socket?

Am I missing something? The only difference I see is the connecting cable. The BT Hub requires an rj11 connector, the TP-link requires an rj45 connector.

I am thinking of buying another rj11 to rj45 to rule out the cable, and maybe trying the router at a friend's where they don't have one of these Openreach master sockets.

Hope that makes sense, any advice is welcome.

P.S. BTW I am plugging the Rj45 into the blue WAN port on the Tp-link router, not a yellow LAN port!

did you use the easy setup for tplink selecting bt broadand and pppoe then use username bthomehub@btbroadband.com and password try just BT

as using master socket should be connecting to the rj11 socket on tplink

Wrong port, it should plug in to an RJ11 socket, using an RJ11-RJ11 cable.

If the WAN port is multi-purpose, you may need your log in to the router settings and toggle the port from WAN to DSL.

That is just a router not a VDSL modem router so won't connect without a separate modem.

Ah...right. I didn’t know the difference. Just had a read up on routers and modems and it makes sense. I'll use this Tp-link router as a WiFi extender, and stick withe the Home hub 2 for now.
