There was a post on here recently, someone wanting to port their number to a VoIP provider without losing their broadband service as a consequence, and having to reorder a standalone broadband service with an accompanying period without broadband service….AFAIR , initially it seemed successful, a ‘sorry to see you leave notification’ for the telephone service and no order visible to cease the ‘host’ broadband, but eventually a broadband cease was noticed , and only through micromanaging via BT (after the poster alerted BT ) was the broadband service maintained…so if you do go down the route of porting to a VoIP it may cause a break in broadband service …as far as having the SH2 subservient to your router to keep DV alive , I don’t think that’s been done .

SH2 & BT Digital Voice

Hi,

I currently have the BT SH2 connected for no other reason that for digital voice services. This has been working fine as it's essentially configured "dumb" with everything switched off and a secondary router (TP-Link BE550) running my wired/wireless network.

Unfortunately having the SH2 in the mix is now throwing up double NAT issues (even with DMZ setup) with some services (most notably our home alarm system) not working properly. I am guessing there has been a change at the cloud service end but nevertheless I want to take the SH2 back out of the equation (as pre digital voice switchover).

I have successfully tested another VOIP provider and I am ready to port my number but before I do so, is there any way whatsoever of having the SH2 sit behind my main router (or setting it up in a different way) and still having the Digital Voice service work? I have seen from older discussions that this is not possible but felt I should ask in case anything has changed before I take the final step of getting my number ported.

Many thanks

A very convoluted solution can be found here https://forum.openwrt.org/t/bt-digital-voice-and-3rd-party-routers/142125

Thanks. I think that's a little more convoluted than I really have time for so it does look like porting the number to another VOIP provider is going to be the best option.
