How do I assign a fixed IP address to a PS5 using the BT 4G Home Hub (HH70BT)?

Hi Guys,

Can anyone please tell me how I assign my PS5 a fixed IP Address reservation from a BT 4G Home Hub Router (HH70BT)?

I have gone through all the router's menu and can not find anywhere that I can do this.

You can never assign a fixed IP address with any router, you need to do that on the device itself.

You can, however, use address reservation so that once allocated via DHCP the address is always used for that device.

Just select 'always use this address' in the IP V4 configuration screen.

Is there even a way to see the IP Reservation on this router?

I assumed it was the same as the SH2, but possibly not.

Chances are your PS5 will always get the same IP address every time the lease is renewed in any case.

Presumably the PS5 doesn't have the capability to configure a static address.

On the SH2 it would be My Network > Devices.

If you are really desperate, SolarWinds used to do a free util that scanned the network and reported what IPs were in use. It's been 10 years since I've used it though and SolarWinds have had their fair share of security issues in recent years, so you use it at your own risk.

You do it on the ps5 not the router

From the main menu, choose Settings
select Network
select Set Up Internet Connection
Choose Wifi or LAN Cable depending on how your local network is set up.
On the screen titled "How do you want to set up the Internet connection?," choose Custom
On the IP Address Settings screen, choose Manual
Select IP Address
Enter the number that you have chosen for the IP address. Select Done
Select Subnet Mask. Enter the number from the list of settings you wrote down for step 1 of this guide. Select Done
Select Default Gateway, enter your router's IP address. Select Done
Select Primary DNS, enter the number from the list you wrote down for step 1. Select Done
Select Secondary DNS, enter the number step 1. Select Done
Select Next
On the MTU Settings screen, choose Automatic
On the Proxy Server screen, choose Do Not Use
Select Test Internet Connection. Wait while the connection is tested.
Your PS5 should now have a static IP address. If you are having problems, make sure that you have entered in the correct information. To double check your numbers, from the main menu of your PS5, select Settings, Network, View Connection Status.

Assigning IP addresses against device MAC addresses is more commonly available than not on routers.

Static IP addresses when available are set on the router (or other DHCP server) and are assigned to devices through the DHCP service.

Manual IP addresses are set on individual devices and can be used to bypass DHCP to varying degrees. So you might decide not only to select your own IP address, but could set your subnet, gateway and few other things on the device. If you get the settings wrong, it's quite easy to render the connection unusable.

*On a PS5, with most routers, there is little need to set a static/manual IP address. Even if using it as a media server, you'll usually be able to access it using name instead!

Static addresses by definition can only be set on the device. A router can only set addresses via DHCP, which may or may not be reserved against the MAC address.

Yup I got static and manual the wrong way around, but that's a long way from saying
