Has any one used a DrayTec 2865Vac on VOIP Via BT ISP

I was wonder if any one has used a Draytec 2865Vac on VOIP on BT ISP . As far as I can tell only BT Hub 6 with the Digital adapter seems to work with VOIP but asking around some have use DrayTec Vac routers

Do you mean VoIP or do you mean BT Digital Voice?

If you mean DV, it will ONLY work with the BT Smart Hub2. Digital adapter is not needed unless you wish to plug in an analogue phone remotely from the hub.

If you mean VoIP from a third party supplier, it should be agnostic to router used.

Yes I do mean any DrayTec router with VAC like s 2865Vac will it work with VOIP via BT ISP But I fully understand that BT VOIP is locked to only BT routers like HUB 2 or HUB 6 using digital adapter . I have spoken to DrayTek and they have said that the 2765VAC, 2865VAC will work with VOIP on BT ISP but I have a feeling they mean other third party VOIP services and not BT VOIP . Vigor V models, which are the model with VoIP function and RJ-11 ports for voice, can register to SIP servers and act as the VoIP gateway for the LAN network.

Here's how you would make it work on a Draytek VAC model router:

The new internet connection do not come with a separate phone line but it is built in the router.

Draytek can support Old telephones on V models, like 2765VAC, 2865VAC.

For this, you need to get the SIP details from the Internet provider and set up VoIP on the router. Does this make any sense .

BT Digital Voice on their consumer network is not based on SIP protocols, or at least if it is, they hide the details and won't give them out. BT do nothing to stop you using a third-party SIP service - at your own expense!

It is SIP based, (according to the router logs, anyway), but it's a proprietary implementation.

If I were you, I'd stop using the expression VoIP and use "Digital Voice" (DV). It's saying VoIP that is what is causing the confusion. DV is a proprietary version of VoIP so, of course, it will only work through BT's own equipment.

If you want to use your own router, (the Draytek), to run your network then there are ways of doing that, (as I've posted before), but a Smart Hub 2 will need to be the first thing connected to the phone socket/ONT if you want to use DV.

No, BT Digital voice is locked to solely the Smart Hub2. The Digital adapter is purely a portable phone socket that links back to the SH2 by DECT. T

The Hub6 WILL NOT work with DV.

Third party routers WILL NOT work with DV.

Third party routers will work with third party VoIP.

Many Thanks for confirming this . Looks like I need to buy a used Hub 2 and then fit external aerials .

It's the "Smart Hub 2". (The old "Hub2" was obsolete years ago. I assume you can't get them anymore but you never know).

The Smart Hub 2 cannot be fitted with external aerials.

Not had a look at smart Hub 2 but I have seen external aerials fitted to Hub 5 and looking at Hub 6 I dont see any reason why you cant fit external aerials .

As has been said a couple of times now, Digital Voice will ONLY work with the Smart Hub 2!

Also, back in the days of the Home Hub 5 the router was the property of the customer. Today the router is only on loan and must be returned when you leave. If you modify the Smart Hub 2, (and good luck with that), they will bill you for it when you leave.

@sub101uk why do you keep talking about a Hub6? You have been told repeatedly that a Smart Hub2 is required for DV. The Hub6 is not the same device as a Smart Hub 2.

Many thanks for your reply and confirming its a straight forward job to add external aerials . Yes someone did add external aerials to HUB 5 . From what I can see I just have to add some bulk head F connectors to the case of Hub 6 . Have you see the rear of the PCB on Hub 6 . You have what seems to be 2 outputs on 2.6 Ghz and the other 5 Ghz .
