BT Halo HUB-Device Speed Difference

Hello

Just left Sky and took BT Halo with 900.

As a lot of people i have read, i am getting 900 to the Hub, but only 300 to my device (WiFi) sat right in front of it.

If i move into another room, it drops to about 80.

Have spoken to the help desk, and they say thats a normal reduction they would expect to see.

Without being nasty, the help desk person did seem to be new at the job, they had to keep going to ask the supervisor.

Is just getting 1/3 of the "advertised" speed normal?

Sadly the 2018 smart hub 2 is not the most cutting edge router.

To get anywhere near 900mbps over wifi you'll need a wifi 6 router

Bizarrely EE which is owed by BT offer this but BT don't.

What band are you using? It's only on the 5GHz band that you'll get anywhere near the speeds you expect.

You won't get a WiFi 6 hub from BT - all they supply is the Smarthub 2 which is WiFi 5.
But you can buy an EE WiFi 6 or WiFi 7 hub - just Google it and several surprisingly cheap offers come up. And it's been established that EE hubs work seamlessly with BT broadband.
However, and I may be wrong, but I don't think you'll ever get 900Mbps via WiFi. That needs a Cat5e or Cat6 ethernet cable between the device and the hub.

I have BT 500mbps...on the BT router never managed more then 120 mbps over wifi. I invested in the EE wifi 6 router for £35 unopened.

Now regularly get 510mbps on wifi.

Do you need 900mbps though?

You'll find in the real world even 500mbps is overkill. Plus it's obviously a lot cheaper.
