I’ve just received a BT smarthub2 as I’m getting digital voice.

The new smart hub2 doesn’t recognise my Raspberry Pi-aware pi-3?

I’ve gone to the BT router address and the device isn’t mentioned.

I’ve tried the pi3 nearer to the router and have also connected directly to the router by Ethernet cable,

Please can someone give me some suggestions ? My old hub always recognised the device .

Thank you in advance

You'll probably find that the SH2 router, will allow the RPi3 to connect to the internet, it's just thanks to a half thought out firmware, it won't show the RPi in the client list. My suggestion would be to assign an IP on the RPi, within the router subnet (192.168.1.0/24) but outside of the range managed by the router DHCP.

It might even be worthwhile, setting up Pi-Hole (or similar) on the RPi, turn off the router DCHP and have Pi-Hole manage DHCP for the network - you would need to set pihole point devices at the router gateway (192.168.1.254) for them to have internet access.

Thank you very much for the reply.

I’m honestly not sure how to do as you suggest , it looks a tad complicated?

Can I still use my old BT router or will digital voice not work with that ?

Ideally I’d like to get my raspberry pi-3 working with the new router .

For the time being I’ve gone back to using my old router that automatically recognises my pi-3

Thank you again for your time

Sorry I meant to say that with the rpi-3 not showing at all in the client list , the rpi which I use for Flight Radar tracking doesn’t work , that’s why I’ve reverted back to the older bt router.

Thank You

The RPi works just fine with the Smart Hub2. I use mine for Flight Radar24 and Pi Hole.

As @Crimliar has said, it is best to give it a static IP address.

The device list on the hub is hopeless, as long as the Pi is working, don't worry if it doesn't appear in the list

Thank you for the reply .

My rpi-3 although not showing still doesn’t work? It works fine with the old router .

I’ve moved the rpi-3 nearer to the router and in the Ethernet port on the rear of the router but still no joy.

Can you please talk me through what I need to do , I’m not that knowledgeable about the router and allocating specific ip addresses.

Wouldi need to change any settings in the rpi?

Thanks

You don't do anything on the router, just set static addresses on the Pi. It also makes it easier to remote access into the Pi if you operate it headless.

Set the Ethernet port to 192.168.1.10 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.1.254.

Set WiFi adapter to 192.168.1.11 same subnet mask and gateway as Ethernet port.

If you are not sure how to do that, Google it for precise instructions to save me explaining.

https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-static-ip-address/

Rather than change the Pi and any other WiFi devices you may have, it is easier to change the network name and password on the new router to that of the old one.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion.

I didn’t realise you could do that .

So that would mean plugging the new SH2 in and changing somewhere and putting my old router ssid and password into the new router ?

So although the rpi wasn’t a recognised device on the SH2 before you think it should still work even so ?

Thanks

Yes, if you go to advanced wireless settings in the SH2, you can change the SSID and password the Pi will then connect and show in the device list.

I had a recent email from BT saying to set up SH2 as we had been recently moved over

to Digital Voice home service?

Thank you again for helping me set up my piaware rpi-3 and not having to change anything in my pi.
