Port forwarding on smart hub 2 to Camera base station

Trying to set up a port forwarding rule on my smart hub 2 so i can access my local camera storage when away from home. I can't get it to work . Is anyone able to help.

It's the Arlo Base station VMB4540r2 for my Arlo cameras, Floodlight

A few more details might help those of us without a crystal ball.

Is the problem with setting up the port forwarding on the hub or seeing the camera once set up?

Don't be so rude. This is totally new to me.

When i try to set up the rule and save it gives a whirring clock . I am now at my mother's (who has dementia and alzheimers ) for the next few days so I can't replicate or screen shot . I will try to do that when I am back at home on Friday.

I'm not being rude, you can't expect help without explaining what the problem is.

You wouldn't take your car to the garage and say 'my car doesn't work'.

The first thing to do is to give your device a static IP address in the range 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.63

You need to do that on the device itself, not the hub.

Then forward the required ports to the IP address rather than the device name.

There's also a strange quirk with the hub that you have to click on the + symbol by the rule before clicking Save.

I assume what @RuthMoran is trying to do is set Arlo security cameras so that the local storage is accessible remotely. I've set a couple of these up for a neighbour, and I'm not fan, because of the holes that were needed to be poked in the firewall!

As @licquorice mentioned, you'll need to set up the Arlo hub with the local storage to a fixed IP address within your local network.

After this on the BT router you'll need to navigate to: Home> Advanced Settings> Broadband> Dynamic DNS
This will give you a Dynamic Domain name that follows any changes that happen to your WAN IP address, and you'll need to enter this into the Arlo app rather than an IP address.

Still using the Arlo app it should tell you the port's/ranges that need to be forwarded. This is where I suspect you might have a problem, because from memory I think they chose port 80 TCP, and port 443 UDP, which I'm not sure the BT router will allow you to redirect. When I last used their app you couldn't pick different external ports and internal ports - so it was a bit of a mess!

You can forward port 80 and 443 on the hub, if you couldn't nobody would be able to run a web server with a BT connection which many people do.

As far as I'm aware, you can forward an external facing port to a different internal facing port.

Thanks for your help and the paths you gave. I have now managed to port forward and can access the camera recordings when I am not at home.
