Using BT VoIP and retaining my non-BT router

I'd like to keep my BT landline when the change to VoIP happens here (still waiting) but I understand that the system is proprietary and will require that it sees a BT router as the first link in the chain. I have a very nice ASUS router set-up which I would like to continue to use. I'm guessing it is entirely possible to link the BT router and my ASUS router so that my domestic wifi etc is generated by the ASUS & the VoIP (but nothing else) is generated by the BT router. However, I have no idea what settings would be necessary to do this or which "output" on the BT router I'd need to connect to which "input" on the ASUS. Is there any advice on this problem anywhere, either from BT or anyone else. Thanks for any assistance with this.

This how I did it with a Draytek. Essentially, the technique is generic.

@WSH Thanks very much. I also have a DrayTek modem which I may be able to insert between the BT SH2 & my ASUS router. This is going to be beyond me but I'll have try.

That would be totally pointless and won't work.

You simply connect your Asus to the BT hub using the generic principles described.

As Licquorice says, that is entirely unnecessary.

The only reason I mention Draytek is because that is what I had at the time. The technique itself is basic networking 101 and entirely generic. Where you have to go to set things on the Asus may change but the overall approach remains the same.
