Yes. I am aware the phone makes the decision but wondering what factors are at play when it is supposed to default to 5ghz.

also, it’s not possible to choose different SSIDs with a bit home hub to force it to 5ghz.

Facebook / Instagram Reels stutter badly on fast enough broadband link

Hi,

I have problems streaming video. This is most noticeable on Facebook reels. Youtube doesn't seem to be affected. I have 50mbs/13.4mbs on copper. The upload jitter seems high to me at 102. Whatever that means.

The problem is much worse in the evening. There is little to no contention within my wifi network. I've reset the router to factory and cannot detect any neighbouring wifi within my home (fairly widely spaced bungalows).

The problem seems worse recently and (coincidence?),, BT have just laid fibre past my home. They couldn't be downgrading the copper to force me across could they?

Oddly, the performance improves if I switch to the EE WiFi connection on the same router (Smart Hub2). Though its not perfect. Even stranger - with marginal 4G (4.27mbs/2.02) I get more reliable video streaming than on BT Broadband.

Not sure if its relevant but this is on an iPhone 11 and it insists on connecting to 2.4Ghz wifi. Ive reset network settings on the iPhone. Also if I shut down 2.4Ghz, it will connect to 5Ghz. But when I bring 2.4 back online (legacy devices), after a few minutes the phone is back on the lower range. This happened in arms length of the router.

it is your device that selects whether to connect to 2.4 or 5ghz not the BT hub so your iphone is selecting 2.4ghz as best connection
