The black discs form a mesh with the SH2 and thus can only be used with the SH2.

The white discs form a separate mesh and can be used with any router.

hope you can assist.

we have BT hub2 at one end of the house (incoming phoneline and understand this needs to be next to this) but to get any internet at the other end of the house (2ft thick walls) is difficult.

am i best to

1) invest in a lot of BT discs and use those for both wifi and plugin ethernet in 4 rooms

OR

2) use powerline adapters (BT mini 1gig) x4.

thanks Licquorice. will multiple powerline adapters over a longer distance still output enough speed and are the TP 2400 superior to the BT mini 1gig? and will they work with the BT smart hub2? (i will need 4 of them in separate rooms)

This is just my personal experience but I've never had much success with powerline adapters. Instead, I have 4 BT white mesh discs with the first one connected by ethernet cable to the SH2, and these provide excellent WiFi coverage in my house, which has quite thick walls.
Still, I guess each house is different and you just have to experiment, though I recognise that can get a bit expensive. I junked a few powerline adapters before I got the mesh discs!

Whereas I use 3 powerline adapters very successfully. It is trial and error for both options.

It is dependent on the quality of your electrical wiring.

I have found TP Link devices to be preferable to BT devices.

Powerline devices are completely agnostic to router used, they are just another Ethernet device.

Thanks Chris, I have the black discs and they work ok for wifi in the house but would need quite a few if i wanted to connect any pc's to the ethernet. Not heard of the dfirst dic connecting to the smarthub2 but guess the white ones are a different mesh system?
