I have the Fibre 2 product. Just found out that the DNS settings are LOCKED! I don't expect to pay 100% of the fee requested and get < 100% of the service. When do I get 100% service or do I have to go elsewhere?

I have no idea why that is a revelation, it is a widely publicised fact about the BT hub.

Nothing preventing you setting a different DNS server on your devices, utilising a third party router or a Raspberry pi as a DNS proxy.

If you want a router than you can change the DNS on you are free to supply your own third party router rather than use the ISP's supplied router which is adequate for the vast majority of customers who want a simple free plug and play router.

I suspect it may stem from the TV box needing that DNS.

When I tried resetting mine, years ago, it caused problems with the TV box and I had to put that back on BT's DNS.

But as people have said, you can manually specify the DNS on a Windows computer. Google is 8.8.8.8 and Cloudflare is 1.0.0.1

@Gary2024 I have to admit, I was confused by your post. As someone who has used a third party router for years, I learned long ago to use a different DNS resolver rather than the one the ISP forces customers to use on their locked down routers.

Obviously I don’t have any idea which router you use, but my own TP-Link router, I set it to use Quad9 DNS at router level. I’m sure you can easily do the same using whichever DNS resolver you choose on your own 3rd party router.
