Auto EE wireless connection?

I was switched to EE. No new hub. Now I can't automatically connect via wireless. Can someone explain in words of one syllable or less whether I can ever go back to the days of setting the username and password to be entered automatically on connection instead of having to manually pull up the web page, click on EE, click on log in and type everything in, every single time?

Are you talking about your home WiFi, or the ability to connect to public hotspots when out and about?

It sounds like you're trying to connect to the 'EE WiFi' network which is not your home WiFi, it's a public hotspot service that anybody can use which your EE/BT hub contributes to. Connecting to this network will always take you to a 'walled garden' page that will expect you to authenticate with your BT/EE account details.

If you are trying to connect to the WiFi of your existing BT hub now that you've been moved across to EE, then you should be using the same WiFi network name you always have, typically something like 'BT-A12BC3'.

Home wireless, the old BT wireless login no longer works. I either need a wired connection or to go through a web page to connect.

That makes no sense whatsoever, it is your router that determines your WiFi login not broadband provider. If your hub hasn't changed, your WiFi login hasn't changed.

had you changed the SSID and wifi password on back of hub to something you prefer? if so was there a factory reset when you moved to EE as that would cause hub to revert to original SSID and password shown on back of hub and not your changed version

if that is case you need to go into hub manager and change SSID and password back to your preferred version

No, I'd made no changes. Still using all the details as provided with the hub.

if you made no changes to SSID or wifi password then as @licquorice posted it makes no sense that your devices will not connect to the existing wifi with your existing password

I would go to hub manager and then wireless and check what SSID and wireless password are shown and then you will be able to either change to what you want or just connect devices to what is shown

What device and what operating system is it that you are using that will not connect?

You have said that you are using a web page to connect. Why?

That would normally only be necessary if you are trying to connect to EEWifi and not your own home's wireless network which will still be as per the details shown on the label on the BT hub..

When you were changed from BT to EE, did they provide you with a new hub? If so, you need to use the WiFi login username and password that came with the new hub, not the one that the old BT hub used.
AFAIK, there is no way you can login to your hub-provided WiFi by going to a web page on, presumably, an ethernet cable connected computer, so I don't understand what exactly you are doing.

I guess you missed the part where the OP said no new hub was provided.

Along with you and others, I too am mystified why the OP is using a web browser to log into WiFi.

I'm logging in via a web page because that is what comes up when trying to connect my Android phone to the wireless connection. If I try to connect to the BT hub as before I get an eternal "connecting..." blue circle. I have to select the EE option, then EE on the page that comes up, then my username and password.

The EE option is public WiFi, not your home WiFi.

That’s strange because switching from BT to EE without a new hub shouldn’t change your home WiFi login at all.

Are you sure you’re connecting to your own home WiFi network (the one with the name on the back of your hub) and not the public “EE WiFi” hotspot?

Try forgetting the network on your device and reconnecting fresh using the password on the hub label. It should connect automatically like before.

Let me know what happens.

Are you sure you are trying to connect to your own BT hub and not a neighbours?

If you look on the label on the BT Hub it will show you the SSiD Name and the wireless password, NOT the admin password, that you need to connect.

Go to the phone's settings and select "Connections" then Wi-Fi. Click on it then look for the SSiD Name that the label showed on your BT hub. Click on that then enter the Wireless password, NOT the admin password, and it should then connect. Make sure that the Auto Connect is selected.

Not a neighbour, my nearest neighbour is at least quarter of a mile away!

I already tried what you're suggesting. It seems that with the switch to EE, everything stopped working the way it did before. If I try to connect the way you suggest, it times out.

I really don't understand this. The source of your WiFi signal has not changed so I can't see how changing providers can have any affect.

You don't even need to be connected to any broadband supplier in order to be able to connect to your WiFi. WiFi is a purely local signal.

The only thing I can suggest is to try a factory reset of the hub. Press the recessed button at the rear with a pin for about 20 seconds until the lights flash.

I have no idea why it won't connect unless there is either something wrong with the device you are trying to connect or there may be user error at some point during the set up.

Have you tried restating your Android phone?

How many wireless devices do you have and if more than your Android are they able to connect?

Just the Android, the desktop has a wired connection. Phone works fine on the work wireless and the Tesco store wireless, which are the only others I have access too (I live in the back end of nowhere).
