I have BT Full Fibre and am connected at 920mbs when checking via ethernet with my pc. My wifi is down to 30mbs when checking 1 metre away from the hub and shows a ping of 200-300ms.

I had this problem a few months ago and despite having a number of replacement routers and engineer visits it was not until I raised a formal complaint the problem was suddenly resolved! No reason was given. I recently received a communication from BT saying I was out of contract and a new contract would cost about 25% more! Has BT changed something to try to force me into a new contract or am I being cynical!!

I have gone through hub resets, changing channels etc.

I spent so long last year on the phone to BT and waiting for engineers I do not want to go through the same exercise again and not get the issue permanently sorted.

Any help appreciated.

@GJMAC So the obvious thing is, if you are out of contract and you've already spoken to BT and it's going to cost more to renew your contract than what you're already paying, then look at switching. I bet you could get a brand new deal with EE which is still BT just a different name, get a brand new router and be paying a lot less. It's entirely up to you. If you initiate a switch, I can literally guarantee you that BT will be falling all over themselves contacting you to arrange a new deal. However, depending on how your broadband enters your property at present, it might actually be advantageous to switch anyway.

What sort of broadband do you have coming into your property? Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) or Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC)?

Also, you don't indicate what sort of equipment you're using to connect via WiFi? I'm assuming a mobile phone? What mobile phone is it? Is its operating system up to date?

How many routers have you gone through?

Lot's of questions, but there's clearly a reason why your WiFi is so poor.

if you don't like the offer made by BT and do not have landline phone then you should consider Plusnet who have just reduced package cost and have incentive reward for new customer this can be done by OTS (one touch switch) just place order with plusnet and job done

If the speed you are getting via Ethernet is 920Mbps there is obviously nothing wrong with your connection speed and is well within the BT Speed Guarantee. BT do not guarantee the speed when using Wifi because there are so many variables that can effect the speed.

See link

BT's Stay Fast Guarantee | Broadband Help | | BT Help

You have indicated that your speed on your wifi device is 30mbs. Speed tests are measured in Mbps not mbs.

If what you have posted is correct:-

MB (Megabyte) measures file size or storage space. (e.g., a photo, a downloaded game, or a movie).

Mbps (Megabits per second) measures network or internet speed.

There are 8 bits in a byte so if you multiply your 30mbs x 8 your speed 240Mbps which while not great compared to your Ethernet speed it is often what can be expected over wifi on some wifi devices.

Thanks, my incorrect typing. I meant to say Mbps. My wifi speed near the router was 200-300Mbps but has suddenly dropped to around 30Mbps with no other changes anywhere. That is the main problem.

The problem is the sudden change of speed from around 200-300 Mbps near the router down to around 30Mbps with no other changes. I am on FTTP with 920Mbps via ethernet. I use 5 Halo devices and have faster wifi if I am near a Halo device than the router.

If by Halo devices, you mean WiFi discs, that is possibly your problem. 5 is rather an excessive amount of extenders and may be causing your issue. More is not always better.

Try turning off/disconnecting the wifi discs to see what speed you are getting from the hub and if it is a good speed add the discs one at time and test then add the next one and test etc until you have them all added or you find the one that is causing the problem.
