Hopefully this is the right discussion

Just had Fibre installed as a temporary measure I have run a old cat5 cable across the floor everything works perfectly

so I installed Cat6 cable under the skirting\in the wall and terminated both with

I made two patch leads 1 for the wall plate socket to the ONT and 1 from the other wall socket to my router

1. I checked both patch leads with a network tester - All OK ie 1to 8 lights show up correctly

2. I plugged in both patch cables to the wall sockets and into my network tester to prove the circuit including the cat6 under the skirting - ALL OK

3. I plugged the old cat5 cable into the wall socket and another old cat5 cable into the other wall socket to create a circuit for my network tester and -ALL OK

But when I plug patch cables into ONT and the router via the cat6 under the skirting the ONT LAN light doesnt come on

Im really struggling now to figure out whats wrong, any ideas Pleassssseeeeee

Thanks

Check the pins on both the plug and socket are clean.

Did you make the leads up yourself? If so, make sure you've not crimped the plugs too tightly and pushed the pins in too far. (Sometimes that can lead to temperamental connections at the socket. Some sockets they work, some they don't).

@nevillebriggs I too have experienced this frustration. And put it down to using a very basic crimping tool and it putting too much or inconsistent pressure on the pins in the connector. Yes it passed a cable test, but at times failed when plugging into a wall plate or hub. If you’ve not already done so, perhaps try a better crimping tool. I paid about £20 for mine.

Looks like you'll need a deep backbox for those.

Thanks for that. I expected you to tell me the name of the product and where it was instead of posting a link. You'd better remove the link. Commercial links are against forum rules and I wouldn't want the mods slapping your legs.
