I've moved your post to start a new thread as the thread you posted on isn't really relevant to your query.

A third party mesh system is always preferable to an ISP based system as you are then not tied to the ISP, the third party system is agnostic to provider.

If you choose a third party system, you don't need to use the router's wifi so obviating the need for an SH3 to provide WiFi6 rather than the SH2's WiFi 5 if that is your reasoning for wanting an SH3.

As far as I'm aware, third party mesh systems are very easy to set up.

Recommendations are probably better sought on an independent forum rather than this specific BT forum.

Out of interest which mesh system would members recommend?

I'm currently nearing re-contracting time (soon to be within 30 days of end of contract), currently on Halo3+ 900mbps, with 3 wholehome discs, with SH2.

At the end of the chat the guide this afternoon did basically advise to come back on when within the 30 days as no BT deals available (for me in my position anyway), but I did make it clear that any retention deal would need to be on latest tech (so SH3) and I'd want to retain 3 wifi discs (so the upgraded versions) - my EE coverage where I now live is non-existent so the 4g back up hub is redundant.

Because we didnt get that far into the haggling stage I didnt find out whether SH3 would be offered, but like others have said this will be a dealbreaker for another 2 year contract when I can quite easily jump to FTTP/cable with Vodafone, Virgin, Sky etc if I really wanted to - but I'm put off them by the unknown ease of setting up an equivalent mesh system using 3rd party (probably better) equipment.
