My old emails have suddenly disappeared from the mail web server

2 days ago, all my old emails have disappeared from the bt mail server. I only have emails from the last few days now.

I have not changed any settings that I have been using for the last 5 years or more - having used the Thunderbird interface without any issues all that time.

Welcome to the BT Community Forums!

Just to be sure here, have the emails only disappeared when looking in Thunderbird, or are they missing if you look in BT Webmail too?

Have you checked your deleted folder to see if they've ended up here, too?

Hi Peter,
They have been deleted from the BT Webmail - but I still have old items in the Spam and Sent folders. Unfortunately, they are not in 'Deleted' and haven't been 'Archived' either - just disappeared into the 'ether'.
I have changed any settings or updated anything at all - I have been really busy recently and not looked at emails for a day or two and next time I log-in...........no old emails.

Unfortunately not - they only go back as far as February 2025. I have been using BT for over 25 years!

Have resigned myself to them being lost and at the same time have lost faith in BT 😞

Will be taking appropriate action going forward 😞 😞

Fyi, my 'Sent' folder still has items as far back as 2004 but my 'In Box' has been decimated.

I had set up 'Folders' within my Inbox on Thunderbird but I don't think these were replicated within BT Mail.

I've highlighted the issue you experienced with our email team, and they've asked if you can have another check to see if these emails are still showing as missing?

If you change how they are sorted, do you seem some of the old emails.

There are threads about the "view- Message Options: Conversation View".

Toggling this enables / disables fetching more emails as you scroll down.
