I have had BT Sport for many years and I have been happy with it. Obviously the sport it shows will appeal to some and not to others but as far as the platform is concerned it's fine. Very easy to set-up and reliable. Main complaint would be the replacing of programmes in the schedules which means occasionally I sit down to watch a recorded programme which turns out to be totally different from that expected. I could understand if this was caused by overrunning live programmes but it quite often isn't.

As for bad reviews I find most products have some bad reviews so generally only take notice of the overall rating.

And if you are hoping to move to BT to get away from price rises then you will be in for an unpleasant surprise! However when your contract is up (with BT or most other suppliers) you can normally get a much better deal if you very politely tell them you will not be renewing as it is just too expensive. It's a shame you have to go through this farce to get a decent deal but that seems the way of the world nowadays.

Thinking about getting BT TV after canceling Sky due to repeated price rises, had four this year alone.

I have had a look at Trustpilot and other review websites and was wondering is BT TV as bad as some of the reviewers are making out ?

How easy is to setup and use, also is conected to a dish or is wifi the main connection. Any advice or opions welcome

Thanks in advance

You should see the Sky Glass reviews on TrustPilot 😂

It's different to Sky, no satellite connection involved, it either connects to a Freeview aerial and/or receives channels through your broadband connection (wired or wireless).

Is it perfect? No, but then nothing is.

If the ability to record and minimising broadcast delay when viewing NOW content live as much as possible is important to you, then it is the only option.

If the price is right, why not give it a go? You have a cooling off period if it doesn't work out.

Thanks SteveG2460 for the information,

the price rises could not be as bad as Sky, I had price rises from Sky in January, February, March and April this year😠 no explanation from Sky other than they raised the prices, so not a happy customer. The BT VIP TV package is cheaper than what I was paying Sky for I was paying roughly a £120 per month.

I renewed my contract with Sky at the end of April and managed to get a deal for £70 per month for what I previously had, then 4 days later I received an email from Sky saying the price for my package would be going back up to what it originally was the following month😠

I contacted Sky and again and they offered no explanation as to why other than its a price rise, so I cancelled my contract, they made no attempt to negotiate or ask why

I recently ran a quote for Sky Stream and for a comparable package to what I have with BT TV, they wanted £145!! Nearly double the price...

BT TV is a well priced alternative product..

Comcast appear to have told them to minimise the discounts and various forums are full of Q customers who were used to negotiating every 18 months (including me), saying the same thing: “I ain’t paying that!”.

@NigelB72 The whole point of Glass and Stream is to hold as best they can the list price and minimise discounts, instead offering flexible packages on 30 day terms. But as usual with Sky, the little add ons quickly rack up.

£5 a month for ad skipping? Behave!

There's quotes on forums elsewhere for Sky being seen as a good deal (including sky sports) when for the same price or slightly less with BT you can get BT sport as well as Sky sports plus now ent (yes not all the same channels but close enough) so to me Sky's now looking overpriced

Probably too late for you, but I have to say I'm really disappointed. We have a 65" OLED LG TV with built in Freeview.

The BT TV Pro picture quality is so poor compared to the built-in tuner.

If I flick between the TV and the BT box, I'm actually astonished how poor the BT box image is by comparison.

I'm in a strange place since it's actually more expensive to cancel the BT package and revert to individual subscriptions, so I'll keep the box but never use it.

I'm genuinely disappointed with how poor this box is.

Fanboy here.

Using internet connection with fttc. 30mbs is more than enough. A few glitches supported here on the forum very well and promptly. The mods get my kudos.

Look out for exceptional deals maybe around black Friday. I'm paying £6 for netflix, now and all freeview channels for a recording box. Beat that? Doubt it. 2 years locked in. No worries

Ok the price went up earlier in the year due to the inbuilt rises but is still only £7 something.

Big changes are promised soon and I suspect there will be deals to attract the attention again.

For example, itvX can deliver things like HD, FAST channels and an ad free experience on every version of the app I have seen (including my 9 year old TV), but not on BT’s flagship box

All of these things drive customers to use other devices because they can’t get a comprehensive enough experience through the BT box.

I say all of the above with love, because I really want the platform to succeed and provide a decent alternative.

If they are different, make them the same, and Enhance the HDMI input if you can.

if this doesn’t fix it, try a different HDMI cable.

If that doesn’t fix it, get BT to swap the box.

I’ve never had a YouView box that had PQ that wasn’t comparable with, or better than, broadcast TV.

Currently a DTR-T4000 running into a 65” LG GX TV. Can’t think a Pro wouldn’t be at least as good as the T4000.

When comparing Freeview pictures between TVs integrated tuners and BT TV (Youview) box tuners @YorkieBar you do need to consider what upscaling ( or downscaling) is being done and which device is doing it. Freeview transmissions vary significantly depending upon channel and multiplex used so particularly for the SD channels you will be getting the picture upscaled. using the TV own tuner means that the TV is doing it all. If using the BT Tv box then depending upon the (Picture and Sound) settings you have elected to use then it is likely that the BT Tv box will do an upscaling and the TV will take the HDMI stream.

@zulu17 @YorkieBar

I’ve <STRIKE>played with</STRIKE> investigated this in the past. Assuming a broadcast HD channel, ideally BBC HD on 101, a 4K TV and YouView box, then there is one choice for the TV and two choices for the YouView box:-

TV: upscales HD to 4K, presents that

YouView box: set to 4K, upscales HD to 4K, passes that to the TV, TV presents that directly

YouView box: set to HD, passes that directly to the TV, TV upscales that to 4K and presents it

So it can depend on which is the better upscaler. I judged my LG GX TV to be the fractionally better upscaler over the DTR-T4000, and so ran the YouView box in HD for a long time when there wasn’t much or any 4K content to take advantage of on it. But now there is, I run it in 4K, which means it is now upscaling any HD I watch from it. But the differences are absolutely minuscule; nothing you would notice unless doing critical A/B comparisons.

For those few people who reported the YouView picture as inferior to broadcast on the YouView Community, we invariably found it was because the picture settings were individual to each input, and the broadcast had been optimised and the HDMI inputs not. I think most modern TVs ask you if you want your setting applied to just the one input or to every input these days, though.

I think in general people do not want to have multiple devices in order to watch channels.

I only wanted to renew my sports subscription but got sent a free BT TV box without wanting it.

After turning it on and thinking that it looked quite promising, I quickly realised no Disney + , no Apple TV.

So the box is back in its packaging and has been a complete waste for the environment and my firetv is back in its place.

If you only want what they offer you, it looks like a nice enough box

I've tried all the different settings, the fact remains that the internal DVB-T2 and DVB-S2 tuner signals from the LG TV do a much better job than the Freeview tuner(s) in the BT box Pro judging by picture quality. So much so that we don't bother using the BT box, now branded EE but obviously still the same thing. It has remained switched off for months now. The only reason we have the box is because it's cheaper to have BT roll our subscriptions together which includes the box, even though we don't (can't!!!!) use it. Also ITV2HD, 3HD and 4HD are now FTA on Freesat, so it makes even less sense to use the BT box as these channels are not available on the BT pro box. I remain very disappointed with this product and cannot recommend it for anyone who has a LG 65" OLED TV.

Cant say I have seen anything that upsets me. Tuners are OK, though my main use is for recording terrestrial via aerial and BBC 4k and BT 4k. Seems to work OK. 4k is handled very well.

More than happy with the service from BT TV, been with BT coming up to 2years.

TV is excellent and the facility to record suits my needs.

Broadband at 500mb is solid.

No issue with the picture on an oled lg 55.

Was with Sky for 20 years and do not miss it one iota. And would definitely not return.

Will obviously look to renegotiate a better deal in April

Don't do it honestly it's not worth all the hassle I've just cancelled EE TV due to the issues as I had BT broadband I wasn't allowed the free multi room although I was classed as a new EE TV customer as BT TV page takes you to EE TV order page.

There's numerous things wrong with EE TV such as IPC codes all the time randomly plus strangely I had my own 4k apple TV box so I logged onto the EE & now TV & discovery plus app and all was working very well but when I switched the EE pro TV box on it said I had no subscription and to get a multi room subscription obviously £10 a month extra via BT absolutely appalling really being penalised for having BT broadband.

I've had sky steam it's ok but can be very expensive.

I've since ditched EE TV yesterday & have taken separate now TV subscriptions for cinema £4.99 monthly for 6 months & entertainment same as above £4.99 per month for 6 months and now sport's £21 a month for 6 months with the boost free for a month but will get it on a offer near the end of the free month as it worked out cheaper plus no 24 month contract either same with the discovery plus TNT sports £29.99 monthly again no contact lock in either & I use my own apple 4k TV box and the quality is absolutely terrific.

I have a LG 75 NANO & it's excellent for the now TV & TNT content too.

I use my Freesat recorder for local regional news .

I'm a lot happier with my set up now.

Plus I can watch anywhere too.

BT/EE TV system is absolutely shocking I spent more time on the phone with BT than I did watching the BT/EE pro box...although the works package was on offer at £65 a month which was reasonable but just wasn't working out for me.
