My elderly neighbour is using wifi as the tv is on the opposite side of the lounge to the hub, and he’s having problems that I can only put down to that because otherwise his set up is the same as in our lounge. Good luck with it.

Not a solution as such, but have you tried watching TNT Sports via Discovery+ on your box? I don’t think there will be anything on there in Ultimate until Friday night’s Ireland rugby union match, but you could try that before the next tv expert arrives. Do you have the same problem on Channels 465 & 433? I realise that watching via Discovery+ is c30/40 seconds behind the multicast channels. We’ve only got FTTC and max out at 51mbps, but we use PLAs and get a perfect picture on 433&465.

Buy a long ethernet cable & try that temporarily. Obviously UHD requires a higher bandwidth than HD, & the way that channels are delivered over multicast requires that to be 100% sustainable. So random speed tests aren't much use as that's only a snapshot.

I'd read your previous comment in the opposite way to how you meant it:

"I have always suffered BT pixelation Issues on the Ultra HDR channel but never on HD channels which does not make sense to me."

i.e. I thought you were saying you'd never experienced issues on HD. What you're saying is that you're now experiencing issues on HD where you didn't previously.

Is there any possibility of temporarily moving the TV and TV Box to directly next to the Hub and using either WiFi or Ethernet to completely eliminate the Powerline Adapters from the issue? If it works perfectly then alternatives can be explored. If it still fails then a more complex analysis of your line conditions will be required.

Hi @Tel2 what model PLAs do you have ? All recent PLA types (BT or Tp-link) should have a reset button and a recessed factory reset pin hole - your symptoms match characteristics packet loss between the hub and TV box which is why the UHD picture is so badly affected compared to HD (UHD channel playout rate is 3-4x higher than HD) and are very likely due to the PLAs struggling to find a clear channel on the in-home electric ring main. Knowing what model you have will help in diagnostics.

The ping time is indeed high as previously mentioned and the number of packets reporting as "lost" even on the BBC One Midlands East HD (generally 8-9Mb/s) is very high and will impact your picture quality. I can understand why TV shop might suggest the router or TV box as they will not generally be aware of how live (multicast) TV is delivered over broadband.

First off I'd suggest ensuring the PLAs are reset and clearly paired, not on any extension / surge protected plug or having any switching power supplies (like mobile phone chargers) from adjacent sockets

. Might also be worth comparing how your Wifi signal strength is between the Sh2 and TV box to check if it's any clearer - just unplug the ethernet cable from the back of the TV box and use the network settings to join to the hub using WPS if possible.

Thanks

David
