BT TV via EE Smart Hub Pro

Hello!

I have BT Fibre and I get BT TV including the Sports 4k package.

I currently use a BT Smart Hub 2 as my router/wifi which is working fine but I want to upgrade to WiFi 7 and also 2.5G LAN both of which are available on the EE Smart Hub Pro - https://ee.co.uk/broadband/wifi-7 - which I can buy privately.

However, I have read online that BT TV only works with BT Hubs and not 3rd part routers, so my question is:

Will I have any issues getting the IP TV aspects of my BT TV package if I buy this router?

What about any other non-EE / non-BT branded WiFi router?

Thanks in advance!

@phurbs

It’s now EETV, whether suppled over BT Broadband or EE broadband, and is compatible with both BT and EE routers. To the point that while I am now with EE broadband, it’s still using the BT Smart Hub 2 from when I was with BT; it’s that seamless.

So you shouldn’t encounter any special difficulties with the EE router.

Third party routers, though, need to support Multicast and IGMP Snooping, and ideally have a setting for BT/EE’s particular flavour of this, or at least certify that they support it.

Setting one of these up, then, can range from a walk in the park to a ten-page world of hurt support back and forth on here (though it did succeed in the end). And that support will only come from fellow-posters; BT/EE won’t get involved if you go it alone.

Just so you know…😛

Any router with BT EE or plusnet is not "third party " be it wifi 5 with the prehistoric BT/ plusnet efforts or the wifi 6/7 on EE all are plug and play on BT EE and plusnet broadband.

BT tv morphed into EETV 18 months ago with the only difference being the name

As 10% of programmes are still not on streaming.
Also some channels like rewind TV still dont have an on demand streaming service.

Over 80% of my monthly TV viewing is now via streaming service. Payed for and the free ones.
