Hi there

Just saw this pop up and I do sympathise as my mom was really hesitant to lose the box. One thing I would say is have a look at the "manhatten" boxes if you do end up having to return it as those look pretty good!

Hope that helps!

Look folks a think a have a solution to those who are keen to have there BT TV BOX. BT You iew+ Set Top BOX with Twin HD Freeview and 7 day catch up TV.÷ NO SUBSCRIPTION. Brand New÷ £132.98. From Amazon plus a Remote at £7 if needed. As was looking up there & it is the exact same box as I have. So if your going/don,t want any hassle, just order this and sent your old one back. An extra what for Remote & all say £25. That,s the best I can see for those like myself who might have to hand there,s in. Think about it. 👍👍👍

Hi @rodders241

Have you actually been asked to return your TV Box and been warned that a non return charge of £115 will be applied if you don't or are you simply making deductions from other peoples comments on this or other threads.

The normal BT charges are currently listed in their tariff guide

When you end the EE TV service you must return the EE Set Top Box that was loaned to you, within 60 days from the date the service is terminated. If you fail to do this then you’ll have to pay £60 for a BT TV Box (Z4), £75 for a BT Box Mini, £75 for an EE TVBox Mini, £89 for a BT TV Recordable Box (G4), £115 for a BT TV 4K Recordable Box (G5), £140 for a BT TV Box Pro or £140 for a EE TV Box Pro.

this page https://www.bt.com/help/tv/learn-about-tv/bt-tv-boxes

has images of the BT (EETV) - do you see your current TV box there and which model is it ?

I had a quick look at Amazon and my imprression is that the item you are considering as a like for like replacement is a BT TV Recordable Box (G4)

So if you currently have that box the non return charge should be lower at £89 and not £115.

At one stage I do believe BT supplied replacement boxes to those on legacy contracts who were using the original first generation T1000 for which support and Youview functionality was withdrawn. Was this how you got your current box ?

You also mention that you don't have an aerial connection to your BT/EE TV box so if that is the case you would not have the Freeview channels available to view and record on your BT/EE TV box. Only the BT/EE TV Box Pro has the FreetoAir channels available in IPTV mode to watch and record from the Box EPG (guide) so if you have either a BT TV Recordable Box (G4), or a BT TV 4K Recordable Box (G5) with no aerial you will only have subscription channels such as TNT Sports and possibly some Entertainment channels in the EPG to watch and record. If you end your EETV package your subscription channels and their recordings are no longer viewable. Apps such as they are on the box would be viewable some have free content , some have subscription content for which you would need to subscribe.

We are already seeing apps being withdrawn from the BT/EE TV boxes particularly the older models so you should consider whether buying older models is really the best investment.

Which in fact a should still be getting until 3rd November but they,ce already shut me down. But it,s not an EE BOX, BT YOUVIEW BIX a have pal

Zulu17, to be honest a haven't been asked to return anything so far. But as you said it is a BT BOX with YOUVIEW written below on the silver bit at the very end of right hand side. Which has a C on Top of letter V. That s all I know, & getting all freeview channels over 50 actually. See a got new Samsung 55 inch TV , bought it local from "EURONICS" maybe/probably spelt wrong. Plus wee guy came out & wired everything up. It even has it,s own stations which are quite good at times as well. That's about it, but your 100% about the box Zulu17.👍👍👍👍👍

Some might say pvr's in a streaming age is madness.

To answer your question

No they won't sell it to you

You could not return it and pay non return charge

(£140 pro box, older models are not so expensive)

but not sure if that cause of action effects your credit score

You could just buy a new one from Ebay for around £100

Also if you obtained your box before Dec 2019 it's yours to keep anyway
