I have just been sent a new Pro box to replace my old you view box which was having connection problems. I have an issue with the new remote which it is claimed will usually suffice for both the box and tv. The TV is a relatively new Sony.

I have used all the suggested restart, reset etc methods ( home 9, home 7 ) to no avail other than controlling on/off and volume. Is it actually possible to get complete pairing ie change channels, use numberpad for TV etc or am I wasting my time?

I believe the remote only controls the volume and standby functions on the TV. It's been over a year since I had one, but I don't remember being able to do anything else with the remote on the TV itself.

Ok, thank you. I did wonder. Its just that the guide seemed to suggest ' pairing' such that I would only need one remote.

I will stick with 2. In fact, as it still works with the new box, I shall stick with the old one which , I feel, has better functions.
