The TV is irrelevant when it comes to finding channels on the TV Box itself - as long as the TV aerial is connected to the TV Box, it will find channels.
I suspect your issue is that you're trying to scan for channels on the smart TV, and the TV isn't finding any. If so, make sure in the TV Box settings that you have enabled aerial pass through - on newer boxes it's on the "Picture & Sound" menu, labelled "Antenna out". This needs to be turned ON.

I have tried to set up the recorder in the exact same way as with the previous) non smart) TV. Although the box is acknowledged by the hdmi ports, when i scan for channels, none appear. My recordings are still present and will play.

The set up is - external aerial to BT humax box, ariel from box to TV, hdmi linking box to TV (and tried in other TV hdmi port), powerline connectors from router to power, and from power to bt humax box.

The TV has Freely.

This could be a reason why your new smart TV doesn’t work correctly with it because although the box can still work with some TV’s, Apps on newer smart TV’s might not function correctly with older EOL boxes.

Hi,

I tried turning on 'Antenna out' button but this made no difference. I think I had tried this yesterday but my head is spinning!

When I scanned the new smart TV yesterday I got only 50 channels and reception was poor. (At that point I wasn't bothered as I didn't intend to view much direct from the tv.)

Today I set up the old TV again and, with just the aerial, scanned for channels on the TV and got 164. So aerial connection seems fine.

Now when I connect the box to the old TV in the same setup as it was originally, and then scan the box for channels it finds none. I turned the 'Antenna out' button on and off to check that again.

Next I looked up how to do a soft reset so that I could keep my recordings and when I ran that, the box restarted and now won't connect to the internet.

The Power line connecters seem to be working but they are something I don't know how to troubleshoot separately.

It very frustrating! - I wish I'd not bothered getting the new tv!

I can 100% guarantee that the model of connected TV has nothing to do with the channel scan.

I suggest that you only connect the aerial from the wall, into the TV Box - don't connect the aerial to the TV at all for now (just the HDMI lead). Then run a scan on the TV Box, and see how many channels you get. If you're not getting any, then either the box has failed, or the aerial has.

My thoughts -

You have three devices with tuners capable of receiving Freeview channels

Old original TV - when tuned receives 164 Freeview channel - clearly receiving a good quality signal from a main Freeview transmitter.

A new SMART TV only receving approx 50 Freeview channels with poor reception - That number of channels is consistent with potentially getting a signal from a Freeview light transmitter OR only receivings signals from a couple of multiplexes from a Freeview Main Transmitter. OR receiving too strong a signal .

A DTR2100 BT badged Youview box that was when previously connected with the Old TV configuration was based upon what has been posted working normally with a full range of Freeview channels available to view and record. Once disconnected to facilitate the changeover fom OLd TV to new SMART TV this has not functioned as expected.

The fact that the preexisting recordings on the DTR2100 were viewable on the SMART TV indicates that the HDMI connection between the DTR2100 and the SMART TV was OK. An attempt to scan (retune) for channels on the DTR2100 , seems to have resulted in no Freeview channels found. This suggests that the quality and /or strength of the Freeview signals from all of the multiplexes received at the time of retune) was deemed inadequate. The Youview tollerance level for poor Freeview quality signals is likelly to be stricter tha those of TVs so whereas a TV might try an accomodate poorer quality signal a Youview Box would simply deem it inadequate to load into its guide. Bear in mind the DTR2100 woud have a twin tuner to accomodate two Freeview channels whereas the signal tuner TV would typically not have to split the received signal.

As both the SMART TV and DTR2100 Freeview aerial tuning and reception is currentlly not good it is likely that the aerial feed /cabling/shielding/interferencei and most likely areas where the root problem cause lies.

If the SMART TV is having problems with the aerial feed then I am not suprised that the DTR2100 is stuggling with the same connection.

I would focus initially on getting the SMART TV signal sorted - if you resolve the Freeview signal problem there you may find them that the DTR2100 issue also gets resolved.

Loose cable connections ,interference from other eletrical devices or cabling or possibly too strong a Freeview signal requiring a attenuator may all be reasons. You try the retune once you have checked all the aerial connections are secure and fitting snuggly and have temporarily switched off any other nearby devices

Thank you for your reply.

If the problem is as you suggest, wouldn't this mean the old TV wouldn't find channels when tuning too?

I'm away at the moment but will try and alternative aerial cable next.

Also planning on trying to find a very long ethernet cable to rule out an issue with the Power line Connectors.

By the way, I brought the Freeview box with me and tried here (a different signal area though) and it tuned 168 channels.

The powerline connectors won't make any difference either - the box doesn't need an internet connection to tune channels.
As long as you're 100% sure that you're trying to tune the channels using the YouView settings, then the only thing that matters is the TV aerial connect going INTO it. The broadband connection and TV connected don't affect it at all.

I'm back home now and planned on trying this with a borrowed box, so that I could keep the 168 channels on my own box. Stupidly I assumed that the power cable connection would be the same so didn't borrow the cable too, and it's different.

I'm loath to rescan my own box in case I lose the channels I got while I was away, but will I be able to record these channels if not scanned from the aeriel at home?

If they're from the same transmitter then it doesn't matter where you were when you scanned - the channels would be the same. The only thing that might differ is signal strength - you may have channels in your list that don't work, or may be missing channels that otherwise could.

If channels work to watch, then they'll work to record, but if they work to watch then a channel scan would also work.

Although I can see the channels (those found while I was away) on the guide, I'm unable to watch them (blank screen) so assume a different transmitter as it asked me to choose a region, neither of which were the location I'm in now.

When I now put the aerial into the box only, and the hdmi cable from box to tv, the box error message is telling me signal is weak and to check aerial, so it isn't reading the channels that are there. I haven't tried rescanning.

Next step was to try to borrow a power cable or another digital box, but as I can't view the channels, I suppose I might as well try tuning again.
