I understand that the stats show 992.3 Annex A ie just adsl2, but one thing that has changed since the upgrade is my up speed, this is now significantly higher than it has ever been, never used to get more than 425K sync and best ever actual up has been 390K in last two years, now its at 628K sync with actual around 550K. Does this not imply that line is actually using adsl2+ ?
no the up speed on adsl2/2+ is the same but with modulation of 992.3 you are currently on adsl2 but if line quality improves it is an automatic change to adsl2+. this would not increase your connection speed

I contacted the mods to ask for their assistance in getting me on ADSL2+ as my exchange has JUST been upgraded
They emailed me last thurs to say they have put an order in due for next Friday - and to let them know how it goes
Which is excellent as I'm very pleased they are giving me the opportunity to try - considering my long line.

My line has held up now for one of my three days with the noise margin varying between 5.0dB overnight and 6.3dB, so hopefully when the mods take a look I'll get a higher IP and sync. Also found out about the Billion 7800N router today, may be worth a try if all else fails as then I can tweak my own noise margin, but I'll see what the mods can do first rather than shellig out £120 for it.
you can get a netgear dg834 V4 and above with custom firmware and tweak the noise margin - far cheaper at well known auction site

Success! After 2days and 16 hours of stable operation around the 4.5-6dB noise margin the HH has resynced at 2.085MB with an IP profile of 1.88Mb, fastest I've ever had in last 8 years!!! Great job, just hope it all holds up now. Stats below, thanks for all of your help.
