ADSL2 missing and router not connecting

Go to solution

Hi all,

I just moved back to BT from another provider. I DId have my adsl with bt for years and still had my router. However now I'm back, my old router settings aren't working, I've tried 2 different actual routers (Billion BIpac's) but even though they get a DSL sync, they fail to connect (in either PPPoE, PPPoA or bridged to my mikortik with PPPoE).

I'm using the bthomehub@btbroadband.com, tried empty and BT as password, CHAP,  0/38 (VP/VCI), tried VCMUX and LLC nothing seems to want to connect.

As I said, I know it's not hardware related as I've tried 2 different modems, one is working with a different ISP fine (different line).

Also, when I was with BT on this line previously, I was on ADSL2+ but now it will only sync on g.DMT (ADSL1), how do I go about getting this changed back to ADSL2+?

Thanks in advance

as you left BT and went another ISP and are now back were you not considered a new customer and sent a new hub?

can you enter your phone number and post results remember delete number  https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome    this will help should you need mod help for adsl2

is your phone line working - dial 17070 option 2 is your number correct and line quiet

Re: ADSL2 missing and router not connecting

Hi,

I did get a home hub, but I don't want to use that, I want to use the same modem I used previously and the same I have with the other ISP, then I use my mikrotik to manage my network. (doesn't seem to be an option to run the home hub 4 in bridge mode from what I can see).

Thge phone line is working fine, plugged into test socket and tried 2 different cables and microfilters 🙂  No idea why it doesnt' pickup as ADSL2+ this time either, it used to and does on my other line.

Regardless of whether you want to use the hub or not, does it work? At this point it is not clear if the problem is with your kit or something else, at least if the hub works we have a starting point.

As there is little difference in connection speed between adslmax and adsl2 according to dslchecker wholesale have put you on adslmax. Downside is your up speed is about 100% lower on adslmax

post your stats and mods should be able to help with adsl2 upgrade

I've plugged the home hub in and after about 10 minutes it did actually sync over PPPoA, I then changed my bipac to use PPPoA and that synced, but alas the mikrotik doesn't support PPPoA only PPPoE. Now this line used to work (as does my otehr one) on PPPoE (isn't all 21CN kit PPPoE now anyway?). So 2 questions now are

1.. Why doesn't it connect PPPoE anymore?

2.. How do I go about getting ADSL2+ enabled again on the line ?

All variants of ADSL with BT have never been PPPoE it is PPPoA. VDSL is PPPoE.

Re: ADSL2 missing and router not connecting

That simply cannot be the case, the mikrotik doesnt' support PPoA so I've always been connecting in PPPoE in the past.
