After having problems earlier this week with v slow Broadband Speeds we took the advice of @john46 and did nothing! After a day the broadband speed rose to its normal rural rate of 1.46mps.
Yesterday we had two powercuts in our small village which laster a minute each.
Now our broadband speed has reduced back down to 0.3mps.
I am going to resume that by the end of today tomorrow again by doing nothing the speed will return back to where it was.
I understand having followed various conversations here that it is all do with the exchange reducing the speed for technical reasons.
What I wonder is..
Is there a certain time period after which the exchange will see that this is just a blip when our router goes off (like a powercut) and not regard it necessary to reduce our speed like this?
If not is there anything one can do!
We are good customers of BT and always pay our bills. 🙂
The speed drop could be down to the power cuts as this is then registered as an unstable line to the DLM in the exchange. The DLM will take nessercary steps to stabalise the line an can affect the throughput on your line. But this may not be the case.
Can you post the stats from your router please? If unsure how to do this then you can follow this guide: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php
you need to maintain a stable connection for 3/5 days for your profile to reset possibly sooner
Thanks for the reply
The router stats are 15 pages long!
I think the issue is caused by the fact we had line problems ltwo weeks ago and the engineer came out.
Last weekend the BB speed again collasped but we kept making the mistake of resetting the router.
Which is the worse thing you can do.
When we mentiond it here we then realised that everytime the router is reset it can affect the IPprofile and as you said this meant that the line was registered as an unstable line to the DLM in the exchange
Just unfortunate just as we were stabilising over last two days we had 2 powercuts cos of stormy weather!
So as John says - we just need to sit and wait! Hopefully if we stay stable for a few days then this will stop happenning
