Big reduction in speeds.

Go to solution

Joined in September 2019 and was getting speeds of 3-4 Mbps and 0.45 Mbps for download and upload respectively. Quite acceptable and expected for my line. Working very well with my BT Smart Hub (HH6).

Last Sunday the download speed has been reduced to 2-3 Mbps. Might not sound much to most people, especially those on Fibre etc but when you don't have much to start with it's a big drop.

The HH6 is plugged into the master and only socket on this line. The panel has a broadband and phone line sockets provided so no need for external splitters.

Done a quiet line test and a perfectly silent line.

Nothing changed in the house at all.

The figures from DSL Checker are shown below.

Thanks for any assistance.

Re: Big reduction in speeds.

connection time only few minutes was that manual reset or hub dropping connection

you appear to be on adslmax and probably better on adsl2 which may not give more down speed but would give about 100% increase in up speed

@imjolly Thank you for your reply.

The problem appears to be reflected in my download noise margin going from around 6 to 15+ dB

It would seem that the profile for the line needs to be refreshed, as well as a possible fault.

Re: Big reduction in speeds.

the normal down noise margin is about 6db so at 15db that suggests a problem with your line hence why I asked if drop a few minutes ago was manual reset or router dropping connection.  if router/hub does this happen often

Hello.

It was a manual attempt by me.

HH6 seems to have been very stable. I keep an eye on tech. log.

Re: Big reduction in speeds.

Hi @Canard1066,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for taking the time to post.

I think @imjolly is spot on and that change is noise margin is down to a possible fault on the line. I've sent you a Private Message with details on how you can get in contact with the mod team so that we can take a look into this for you.

Thanks

Matt

Hi @Canard1066 I wanted to check that since we spoke earlier in the week that the speeds have remained at the normal speed you were getting.

Post back and let me know.

cheers
John
