Broadband Speed Issues - Upload Seriously Slow.

Hi all,

I've spent god knows how long trying to get help for this, but BT seemingly don't want to listen/help or simply don't have the knowledge to do so.

I'll try to explain in as much detail as possible.

Basically, I want to start streaming, you need upload speed for this.

Next door neighbor also with BT, he gets 1.5+ MB's upload. I get 0.4 / 0.5MB's.

Average in my area is 2MB's upload speed.

Same device to do the speed tests, both BT broadbands. Massively different upload speeds.

I'm using the BT Router/Hub that they sent when order was placed.

PLEASE HELP ME.

Thanks

Re: Broadband Speed Issues - Upload Seriously Slow.

Could you please enter your phone number and post results - remember to delete number: https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html

Its likely that you are on ADSL2/2+ which offers a maximum of 1.2mbps upload speed provided you are relatively close to the exchange.

To stream at a decent quality (720/30+) you are looking at anything more then 2.5+mbps upload speed which is only achievable by being on fibre (FTTC/P)

You can use this website to help calculate stream settings for your prefered streaming software: https://obsproject.com/estimator

Re: Broadband Speed Issues - Upload Seriously Slow.

Hello,

Thanks for the response. Here are my results:

BT-Speeds-Home.JPG

I've already tried using the OBS Estimator. I think I have best settings for what my current speeds allow.

Is there anything I can do to improve this speed? I would go to Fibre but all the checks say "Not Available in your Area yet".

I would accept this speed if others on the same package got the same, but as I stated I get about 0.5MBs and my next door neighbour, on BT and I presume at the same exchange gets close to the 1.5 that the above test says is "Maximum". They get about 1.2 - 1.4 on SpeedTest.

This is over double what I get, and would drastically improve my streaming.

I've read somewhere that uploads can be capped? Could this be an issue?

Finally, I've studied ADSL etc and I was under the impression it should be a ratio of around 10/1 Download/Upload.

This is no where near what I'm getting.

Thanks for your input. Any help appreciated.

Regards.

Alex.

Re: Broadband Speed Issues - Upload Seriously Slow.

Looking at the results from the DSL check, you should be looking at an upload speed anywhere between 0.7-1.2 mbps.

Could you please run this test: http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/PerformanceTesterWS/diagnostics.do

and

Could you please post the ADSL stats from your BT HH router please. You can use the guide below to help you locate the ADSL stats if you need it.

ADSL Line Statistic Help:

If you have a BT Home Hub like the one below...

 Then:

 1) Go to http://192.168.1.254 or http://bthomehub.home

 2) click Settings

 3) Click Advanced Settings

 4) Click Broadband

 5) Click Connection or sometimes called ADSL (see picture Below)

adslconnection.png

The direct Address is http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9116 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 1.3)

or http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9118 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 94.1.11)

To see all the HEC, CRC and FEC errors. You may need to click " More Details"

There are more useful links on Keith's website here: If you have an ADSL connection, please select this link

Don't have a BT Homehub/Voyager?

http://192.168.0.1 for a netgear router and look for ADSL adsl statistics with information like noise margin and line attenuation, connection speed

• http://192.168.2.1 for a belkin router and look for ADSL adsl statistics with information like noise margin and line attenuation, Data Rate
