Re: Broadband keeps dropping out

The hub should be delivered today.  I'll keep you posted.

Looking at the log this morning, the last reconnect was on the 9th.

08:44:08, 09 Mar.	(134580.530000) DSL noise margin: 5.90 dB upstream, 6.20 dB downstream
08:44:06, 09 Mar.	(134578.870000) DSL line rate: 1136 Kbps upstream, 6648 Kbps downstream
08:43:16, 09 Mar.	(134528.950000) DSL is down after 690 minutes uptime
08:43:16, 09 Mar.	(134528.950000) ETHoA is down after 690 minutes uptime
08:43:16, 09 Mar.	(134528.530000) PPPoA is down after 690 minutes uptime [Waiting for Underlying Connection (WAN DSL - Up)]
08:43:12, 09 Mar.	(134525.030000) PPP LCP Send Termination Request [User request]

There are no WAN events logged since. Is this significant? Is the noise margin acceptable, or, pardon the pun, marginal?

Also, how can I increase the up time from 690 minutes and the lease time (I think you suggested this earlier but I cant find any way to do it) from 1440 minutes? And what's this about User Request? I've asked before, but I never "request" termination other than by doing a reset, either when asked by a technician or in desperation. Neither was the case at 08:43:12 on the 9th. We went out at 06:30 and did not return until well after 19:00!

Many thanks.

Re: Broadband keeps dropping out

By the way, how do you give a rating above 1? The star will only respond to the first click. And in another post I saw a reference to mod group and an Icon on your profile. Like many others, I can't see it, only a list of you you've helped.

Re: Broadband keeps dropping out

you can't give anymore that 1 star to a post

not sure about mod group and icon in profile   are you talking about contacting mods?

Re: Broadband keeps dropping out

Hmm. Saw some had scores of 2 and 3. oh well. As to the moderator group, I've checked where I saw it in the thread about drop outs and slow speed, and it's under Forum/About, not where I thought the text said it was which was Moderator profile. Sorry.

The new hub has arrived but as there have been no WAN events since the one I posted again this morning, I'm going to leave well alone for a day or two and see what happens. I've just checked the TR069 log too, and the last " session closed due to error: No response" message was at the same time as the last "DSL is down...." message in the WAN log (Monday 9th when I was not here), so I'm assuming whatever the fault was that had our Broadband going up and down like a yo yo and slowing to a crawl (or stopping) in the evenings has maybe been fixed? Recognising of course that BT maintain there was no fault outside my property. Hmm. We'll see. Anyway, I'll let you know what happens over the next few days, and then maybe I can leave you in peace and close out the thread with a "Solved". By the way, how do you do that? I've never found the button/box/menu choice. Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Re: Broadband keeps dropping out

if you see a star with 2+ the that is the number of people who liked the post as everyone can only give 1 star

if you get to situation of 'solved' then select the post you think helped most then go to options on the right of that post and then 'mark as accepted solution'

Re: Broadband keeps dropping out

That's my problem. The only "Mark" under options drop down on the right is "Mark as New". The only other options are things like "Print" , "Bookmark", "Subscribe", "Highlight" and "Report as inappropriate".

Hi Sprightly47,

You can only mark threads that you have started 'As accepted soloution' This thread was started by EurIng so the accepted solution option is only available to them.

Thanks

Re: Line Fault is Known by BT but when will it be repared?

I seem to have "lost" the original thread Re: Broadband keeps dropping out so I'm posting in this one with the same title at the start. As previously posted, everything seemed OK after 9th at 08:44; until the 17th that is. However ther was a total power brownout (63V mains) for 1hr 22min in the whole Malmesbury area in the morning on the 17th, so that would explain the disconnect. However, as you will see from the log listing below, it took until the early hours of the 18th to sort its self out. Still have had no explanation of what the original fault was though, and no, I have not installed the replacement Home Hub, and have no intention of doing so as it never was the source of the fault.

Does anyone out there know what the fault was in the BT system? Have those with the same problem also seen it magically disappear since the 9th?
