Then you just have a standard ADSL connection.
If the phone went dead, then that would indicate a problem on the external line.
Which master phone socket do you have?

If you have a spare microfilter, then plug it into the real test socket which is located behind the filter section. See if the speed improves, and the disconnections stop.
