Extremely slow broadband which disconnects frequently

Hi

Basically, we live in a large household which is very demanding on the internet. We are in a fibre enabled area but after around 4 months of constant delays, phone calls, and engineers not arriving we were told we were too far from the exchange to get fibre. Over the last few months the broadband constantly disconnects and the speed keeps dropping and is currently sitting at 0.12 download which is simpy unbearable. We used to get around 5 meg which isnt too bad considering where we live in regards to the exchange but as I have mentioned this has fallen and disconnects frequently making online gaming a huge issue. We have had four engineers out to look at this and we are no further on. The first engineer said there was numerous faults on the line and replaced a section of the line which would apparenlty fix the problem, it never. The other engineers all turned up and ran their tests from the socket and all said that they were getting 4.4 meg and that they couldnt do anything as the tests were all coming up fine. Therfore, if anyone has any ideas to why my broadband wont go above half a meg and disconnects frequently then that would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: Extremely slow broadband which disconnects frequently

Hi Welcome to the community forums

Have you tried the quiet line test dial 17070 option 2 you should hear no noise if you can hear noise then it needs reporting to BT faults on 151 with no mention of broadband
in the call are you connected to the test socket using a new filter
once you have posted the information asked for then the community members can help you more

if using a hub 4 locate these lines located in the hub logs
Lines should look like this
19:11:29, 07 Nov. (2290101.460000) DSL noise margin: 7.00 dB upstream, 6.10 dB downstream
19:11:29, 07 Nov. (2290101.390000) DSL line rate: 448 Kbps upstream, 288 Kbps downstream

Can you run this checker and post back a screen shot of the results. Make sure you delete your phone number before posting.

Can you use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down.

This test must be done with a wired connection.
