Hourly drops in connection and general poor speeds when up and running

Go to solution

Hi Guys,

I am looking for some help with my new connection.

I have had the ADSL connection since the 11th Sept 2015 and was advised a connection speed of 2mb-5.5mb

I am currently (when connected) getting 1.92mb and dropping to 0.32 or lower to my devices be that Ethernet or wireless (it makes no difference, the line rate to my home is apparently 6.91MB.... why is it so different??

2015-09-25_16-46-51.jpg

It also completely drops to almost a snails pace (unreadable) sometimes for hours on a regular basis, when I reboot the Homehub 4 it works fine for a few minutes then drops again and the hub always a solid blue light wih no other issues.

My exchange is Montford Bridge cab 4 and I have spoken to BT 1st and second line support who have tried to help but have not been able to stabalise the connection.

Any advice would be greatly recieved

can you go to hub manager then troubleshooting then helpdesk and post stats

can you run btspeedtester and when first test completes run diagnostic test and post results

btspeedtester

can you try quiet line test  dial 17070 option 2  should be quiet and best with corded phone

are you using test socket with a new filter or somewhere else?

have you turned off smart setup  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44328/~/switching-smart-setup-on-and-off-on-the-bt-ho...

did you split the networks  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44798/related/1

In regards to the other questions, I am plugged directly into the Master Test socket and also tried without and get the same speeds with several filters I called the quiet line and have no noise, I also have checked the Orange Ring line and this has been disconnected, I have turned off smart setup and I have not split the networks - I am using a Windows 8 Lenovo T550....

Many thanks for your swift reply!

can you enter your phone number and post results  remember to delete number  https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html

your connection time is only 24min is that due to manual reset or router dropping connection?

your profile is to low for your conenction speed but this will recover automatically but you need to maintain a stable connection 24/7 for 3/5 days

so compared to the estimate you have a great connection and profile should correct itself to 6mb which will be a big improvement

check profile

Re: Hourly drops in connection and general poor speeds when up and running

Sorry imjolly I don't follow... Do you mean my current speed of 1.93MB is a good connection and this should increase to 6mb?

If so how long should this process take and is the dropping down to unusable speeds normal?

Thanks

Gary

Re: Hourly drops in connection and general poor speeds when up and running

you currently have a 6.9mb connection speed whereas checker say 3mb for your line.  your profile is only 2mb at present hence the 1.93mb download speed but correct profile for your connection speed is 6mb so your download speed should increase to about 5.5mb

Re: Hourly drops in connection and general poor speeds when up and running

My mate had the same grief as you, he was on 'superfast' fibre.

Had 30 odd mb coming in, as soon as it hit the router, less than 1 mb!!

BT couldn't sort it, they just say it must be your internal line.

Strange that, when he had TalkTalk all was fine.

He has now had to PAY BT £40 to get out of his contract and go back to TalkTalk.

Another party will be thrown if ever BT go bankrupt.

That is totally different and was probably exchnage congestion or using a wireless connection and getting poor download speed but still had correct profile

the problem here is a low profile which will automatically correct itself given a stable 24/7 connection for 3/5 days
