Interleaving

Go to solution

Quick question, I notice that my ASDL 2 line (HH4) has interleaving. As I am an online gamer would it be beneficial to have interleaving turned off, I have read that it would benefit my ping but could someone help explain the drawbacks.

Is it even possible to request interleaving to be turned off.?

Any help appreciated thanks.

Re: Interleaving

Hi @raydun

Thanks for your post and welcome back!

Here is a link that will answer your questions Smiley Happy - What is interleaving?  What are its pros and cons?  Can I ask for it to be switched off?

Cheers,

Robbie

Re: Interleaving

Thanks guys for the replies very much appreciated.

@RobbieMac having read your link I feel it could benefit me as an online gamer :-

Quote :

While interleaving helps make your broadband faster and more stable, it can also increase the delay (latency) of your connection by up to 40ms (milliseconds). While most people wouldn't normally notice this, it can adversely affect some delay-sensitive applications such as certain online games.

Could you maybe please clarify, if I were to request to have interleaving turned off and the line became unstable would DLM automatically turn it on again, and if not is the change reversible by requesting here on the forum. I would obviously love to improve my gaming experience but would be a little worried I may make things worse so hoping you can just clarify.

Is this a change you could arrange if I decide to go ahead with the request.

Thanks again for all your assistance.

Re: Interleaving

Hi @raydun

Thanks for posting back!

If you turned interleaving off and the line became unstable then DLM would normally apply it again.  We can help you take it off from here to see how your line performs and worst case scenario, we can re-apply interleaving if you start seeing connection issues.

Every line performs differently so it's hard to say what will happen until we carry out your request.  Click on my username here >> RobbieMac << and you'll see our contact link on the left hand side underneath my profile picture.

Cheers,

Robbie

Re: Interleaving

Just a further update, gaming experience greatly improved all round since having interleaving turned off.

Connection has been set at Downstream 6656Mbps  Upstream 1204Mbps for several weeks now and has performed

solidly without any problems whatsoever.

Many thanks again @RobbieMac for making this possible, cheers.

Re: Interleaving

Over the past few days I have noticed that Downstream has dropped to 4.544 Mbps and Upstream is now 1.112 Mbps

when it had previously been at 6.656 Mbps and 1.204 Mbps for the past year.

@RobbieMacwould you be able to check on the reason for this change, many thanks again for your help.
