No internet access on laptop

I've recently moved to BT and have the BT home hub 4.0.
Everyones mobile gets wifi, my tv, xbox and youview box all connect to the internet ok.
Yet for whatever reason my laptop is telling me:
"No internet access. Your devive is connected, but you might not be able to access anything on the network."
When I use the trouble shoot option, it tells me:
"Wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

Any assistance would be appreciated

Re: No internet access on laptop

Hi,

Try giving your laptop a static IP, for example 192.168.1 50

Re: No internet access on laptop

I just found this youtube video
https://youtu.be/nLaA42SsrUA

It seems to have worked.
Did I just give my laptop a static IP?
I'm not even sure what that means 😄
But if it is, then I'm online.
If not then the guy who made that youtube video probably now has my bank details...

Re: No internet access on laptop

If it works that's great, however you may want to keep the text below for future reference.

Click on the network icon beside the taskbar clock, click Open Network and Sharing Center, click Local Area Connection, click Properties button, highlight IPv4, click Properties button.

Select Use the following IP address, type in the address,  subnet mask will populate automatically then add the default gateway address 192.168.1.254

You can leave the DNS on automatic.

Re: No internet access on laptop

Hi,

Yes that's a static (unchanging) IP address but I think the settings on that video gave the BT WiFi Fon gateway.  Not the default Hub LAN settings.  I may be mistaken as I never use hubs and have no need of the Fon but I don't think so.

Perhaps another forum member can verify.
