Possible Fault

Hi all,

You may have been following my two main threads at the moment ( Adsl2+ on long lines and When using landline phone should SNR drop? )

I have decided to create this new thread as it's really a new problem.

The problem is that recently when using the landline phone the snr (noise margin) would drop and the errors would increase dramatically causing the broadband to cut out. See When using landline phone should SNR drop? for evidence.

So hoping it would resolve itself I left it, but seems to have got worse.

So Today I tried the TEST socket, however the phone works but the broadband "B" light flashes oranges then goes blank suggesting there is a much deeper fault than this possible HR fault.

I have tried the BT phone line test but says that it can't test the line Smiley Frustrated

Any help would be appreciated as to me this is a new kind of problem I haven't dealt with before Smiley Very Happy

Cheers

Re: Possible Fault

from all the testing you have done and posting the stats it certainly looks like a problem outwith your home and needs mod help

Re: Possible Fault

Thanks imjolly,

Haha you'll never guess, it's now changed it's mind and is actually working, looks very intermittent to me :L

I've plugged it back into the Openreach v1 Adsl Master Socket and did the quite line tests, and for some reason the snr didn't drop and the errors only increased by 4 or 5 Smiley Frustrated

What do you think? an Intermittent fault?

Stats for reference - Plugged into Openreach v1 Adsl Master Socket:

Line state:Connected
Connection time:0 days, 00:06:49
Downstream:1.688 Mbps
Upstream:448 Kbps

ADSL Settings
VPI/VCI:0/38
Type:PPPoA
Modulation:G.992.1 Annex A
Latency type:Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up):6.5 dB / 10.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up):66.2 dB / 31.5 dB
Output power (Down/Up):17.0 dBm / 12.6 dBm
FEC Events (Down/Up):72 / 16
CRC Events (Down/Up):0 / 1
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote):0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote):0 / 0
HEC Events (Down/Up):0 / 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote):20 / 15

Thanks again,

Re: Possible Fault

haha ye I've heard, If it happens again I will update these threads 🙂

May also help to know that the line is fed by pole and I think travels all the way to the exchange overhead, unless it connects to a junction somwehere a few miles away.

Also should the snr drop when using the landline phone?

Thanks again,

Much appreciated

Re: Possible Fault

Thanks imjolly and RogerB,

The problem is that it's not doing it at the moment, seems very intermittent :L

So I'm thinking of reporting it when it happens again.

And Hopefully the problem should be located, unless the line changes it's mind again and pretends all seems ok Smiley Very Happy

Thanks all 🙂

Re: Possible Fault

haha ok thanks RogerB, will get my dad to do it when he get's back. Though he'd proabably want me to do it as I know more about it :L

The quite line test all seems fine on both cordless and corded phones.

Thanks again 🙂
