Re: Router identification

IMG_6671.jpeg

nothing has changed at all and when they did previously come out they got it back up by doing something with the wires in the BT cabinet at end of street

now they wont come out as they have lowered the msg to nearly a third

just out of interest if it were to go up again (if i told someone who works for bt to have a look next time he is in cabinet) will it atomatically go up or have bt locked it at the lower gaurenteed speed at their end?

Re: Router identification

@caledonia

as @iniltous  mentioned I think you are in a banded profile with 35mb down and noise margin at 9db.  Have you been having drops in connection or more likely resets of the hub in hope to improve your connection speed.   resets will make it worse not better.  if you maintain a stable connection the noise margin should reduce to normal 6db giving increase in speed.  If line is good then noise margin may drop to 3db giving another speed increase

Re: Router identification

Finally got an engineer visit but I'm dreading it as last one did not know where wires came from outside (he knew it was cabinet 9 but did not believe me they then came from side of house/street to the row of houses)

despite bt having been there a few times before he was adamant it was top of street different direction and wasted a long time till he realised

seems a hit or a miss i had once a bt engineer who within 5 minutes had it all fixed as he knew to check wires coming in first main box and see what side inside/outside the problem was

and when i said its usually in the cabinet he went straight there and fixed it.

Re: Router identification

Update engineer never turned up despite me taking a day off apparently they did a test and reached the new low minuim.

spent 3 hours on phone till i got other engineer booked ( that BT phone system must have been made to deter people)

Anyway its so hard getting anywhere IF you reach your new low Guaranteed speed (was around 70mb now minimum is 25mb) as they keep saying its fine

this was my report from BT

IMG_6756.jpeg

This below post by @iniltous  sums up my predicament exactly

All FTTC cabinets deliver 80Mb on lines short enough to get that , FTTC is rate adaptive, that means the speed at any particular location is a result of the distance from the cabinet and the quality of the copper pair .

If you once got 68Mb and now dont , that suggests a fault on the copper pair has impacted the speed , and if unresolved the minimum speed guarantee can be reduced to reflect the real world speed that cable pair is delivering, resolve the fault the speed improves and eventually the minimum speed guarantee follows, the problem is once the MSG is reduced, reporting a fault is judged against the new minimum and if the speed is above the reduced minimum it’s difficult to get a fault raised simply using ‘speed’ as the fault.

Re: Router identification

Looking at the stats in message 18, you are definitely in a banded profile due to DLM taking action from the  line drops.

The minimum guaranteed speed is a crazy catch 22 situation.

Be insistent that you have a fault and that it needs to be escalated to someone that understands line stats.

Re: Router identification

They sent a guy that only does indoors( despite telling them numerous times it was a cabinet problem) and as i am reaching min speed he said nothing he could do.

he tried to tell me as i was medium distance from cabinet i would only get 50 and less in house which i called him out on asking why i have had high 68s before

to this he replied you need to ask outside engineer

as i am being fobbed off bt can do one as my contract finished anyway even if i get same speed elsewhere i am not going to be made a fool off

think as a protest will pack in bt sport as well i can watch football elsewhere

Re: Router identification

If you are sufficiently bothered , post your router statistics again to see if the banded profile is still on your ‘line’ .

People who get a home visit rather than an engineering appointment get that if the ISP believes the problem isn’t with the network (and therefore Openreach responsibility) but the customers own equipment or internal setup , hence the tech visiting is representing BT (not Openreach ) and can only check the ‘internal’  setup  , given this approach actually costs BT ££’s , whereas sending Openreach doesn’t cost BT (or any ISP) anything if the network is defective, suggests no problems are present or detectable on the external network

Re: Router identification

ooo this sounds so similar to my journey with BT/EE. I was a customer for yeeeaaarrrssss!!

A Wifi (BT) engineer, then a Wifi (BT) engineer. Then an Openreach engineer, then another, then another. Then a WIfi (BT) person. All saying they had no knowledge of the previous engineer. Until the same person arrived on my doorstep two weeks in a row because someone had left!

There are big problems with the network and staff retention.

Re: Router identification

@caledonia

the last hub stats showed a connection time of only 7hrs and that you were in a banded profile due to line instability.  can you post new stats to see if connection time and better an if still in same banded profile.  Are you resetting the router to try and see if connection has improved as that will not help
