Re: Speed could be better?

For Neil O - just capturing latest ststs before I restart to try get a workable speed - I know doing this doesn't help "and connection rates can go down as well as up"!

Re: Speed could be better?

i would leave the connection alone until after the mods get a reset done for you it could increase your noise margin further

Re: Speed could be better? Amended - Hub Restarts

Previous issues mostly resolved with help from Mods and BT engineer.  I have a stable connection for 10/13 days then get a set of hub restarts.  Just recently they are becoming more frequent with 4 today so far at 3.24, 6.27, 14.10 and 17.31.

Quiet line test is clear and hub is into master socket which has the Mk2 filtered faceplate.  I am not getting the number of errors I used to. Any ideas?

Re: Speed could be better? Amended - Hub Restarts

the errors are probably lower as your noise margin at 15.3db is a lot higher than normal of 6db.

if quiet line test ok then you can try the test socket and see if that helps stabilise your connection   I appreciate your have a SSFP but although very unlikely they do go faulty and connecting to test socket is nice easy way to find out

Re: Speed could be better? Amended - Hub Restarts

Thanks - tried the test socket but not much difference.  i suspect because it appears to be intermittent (which the errors "grouping" would seem to suggest).

When the engineer came, he was reluctant to set the noise down to 6db beause of the attenuation and thought it would be more stable at 9db.  I have just looked at the WAN event log and noticed that when the signal comes back up, it is always at 19db.  Could that be an cause, as the stats I have suggest it is usually around 15db occasionally dropping to 12/13db at peak times? Just to confirm, it is the hub restarting notanything I am doing.

Re: Speed could be better? Amended - Hub Restarts

the upstream noise margin is not a problem it is the downstream that is high at 15db when normal is about 6db.  try quiet line test and see if any noise.  unless you can find cause of conenction dropping then your noise will stay high resulting in your current lower than normal connection speed

Re: Speed could be better? Amended - Hub Restarts

Quiet line seems fine - very faint "ticking" but hardly hearable

Re: Speed could be better? Amended - Hub Restarts

when you tried the test socket did you leave tere for a couple of days to see if it helped stop the drops in connection?  it would not reduce the noise margin in such a short time or increase the connection speed

Re: Speed could be better? Amended - Hub Restarts

It was only in for a day or so - I can do and leave it longer - the issue though is I get stable connection periods of 10 days plus (this is over a few months) and then daily/more frequent restarts followed by periods of 10 day plus stability for a while.  I guess I need to pick a time when it is acting up - although that won't be when it is 3am and 5 am!

I think the noise was set by the engineer and reflected when the errors were higher than they are now - something changed somewhere a few months ago which improved things - not sure if that was external or internal  - I had an old LCD TV "break" and it might be co-incidence but the line improved around the same time.
