What does packet loss indicate?

Go to solution

Hi, I have a client ( a charity) who use an online booking system TM2. They are open between 10 and 3 daily.

Intermittently but 7 to 8 times daily the booking system becomes unresponsive.

Using JD speedtest I am seeing packet loss of around 20% at these times, testing against bbc.co.uk

The speed test is running on a seperate pc and is plugged directly into the hub 3.

The circuit is a 12mb adsl2 and bt test it as functioning without fault.

The packet loss times are only between 10am and 3pm, so appear to be linked to the use of tm2 but I am testing on another pc to a different server.

Can someone explain what I am seeing and what we can do about it?

Hi,

Is this a business line or a residential line?
If Business line and with BT Businessthen you may be best to ask the guys over at BT Business:
https://business.forums.bt.com

If with BT Consumer then to help the community can you please post the adsl stats from the router and provide a few traceroutes and pings using command prompt or terminal.
Please do this with the computer connected to the router via the wired LAN connection.
