Wireless light flashing when laptop is off

Is my router being used by someone else in the street when I see the wireless light flashing randomly after I have turned my laptop off?

Re: Wireless light flashing when laptop is off

Hi Rachie80 and welcome

Does it flash when your laptop is connected?

If the router in use is a BT Home Hub and the wireless light is flashing:

Version 1.0 - Wireless in use
Version 1.5 - Registering Wireless
Version 2.0 - Wireless registration mode

I'd have to say that if it's a V1.5 or V2.0 then the hub could be failing...
...I could be wrong though

Re: Wireless light flashing when laptop is off

Its quite normal for the wireless light to flash. There is always background Ethernet and wireless activity.

Also business hubs and all new home hubs have BTOpenzone and FON enabled by default, so it could easily be someone using your hub as a hotspot.

You should be able to look at the network devices menu on your hub, and see who is connected. Not sure where that is on the new home hub, as I have an old version.

Re: Wireless light flashing when laptop is off

On a HH2a you can see the number of FON devices by clicking on Services then BT FON. Don't know if you can see the actual device because I have never seen one. Not found anywhere that shows Open zone devices but not sure if anybody has tried.

Re: Wireless light flashing when laptop is off

Mmm. None of my BTHHv2.0s have a flashing wireless light

(except on a reboot - which is normal)

I still think it's got a problem...

Re: Wireless light flashing when laptop is off

I don't know about the Hub 2.0s, but the 1.5 hub has the option of setting the wireless light to always on or flashing when there's traffic.

the 2.0a has the option to make the lights flash if you want - don't by default. using a to z select lights.

Re: Wireless light flashing when laptop is off

On the HH2, you can set the BB, Wireless and Phone lights to flash.

You can't set just the wireless.
