broadband speed almost halved?

hi

Since the floods in York my broadband speed dropped from around 6.5-7mbs (last 4 yrs) to 4.3-4.5Mbs.

Whilst my telephone exchange is not york I understand it is fed from york.

My exchange is about 400m away.

( I have never had to wait for my line to settle either - full speed is instant whenever I reset my bt voyager 2500v router)

Is anyone aware of a problem?  will it get better?

Thanks

Re: broadband speed almost halved?

Hi Thanks for the feedback

This is what I have from HH4  However, speed tests still show only 4.3ish Mbs download speed.  any ideas to get full speed back?  using etherent  not wireless.

Thanks

Re: broadband speed almost halved?

you need to maintain a stable connection for 3/5 days to allow your IP profile to increase you are only showing 9 hours at the moment

Re: broadband speed almost halved?

Can you use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test must be done with a wired connection.

Re: broadband speed almost halved?

Thanks for your continued feedback.

I noye your point to wait 3+days to let the connection settle, however, in the 4 years I have been on BT I have always got 6+Mbs immediately on reconnection. So what has changed?

I now use 2 routers - my faithful BT Voyager 2500V, which has outlasted 2 home hubs. and a recently acquired HH4 so I can access BT WiFi service.  As the HH4 will not connect to my Samsung laptop I need to switch between routers. (never in use together)

Moving to my speed issue I have run the BT wholesale test and the result is 4.36Mbs.  It reports there are errors but it cannot diagnose them.

My HH4 reports download speed of 7.938Mbs and Up 448kbs

Any further thoughts much appreciated

Thanks

Re: broadband speed almost halved?

you have max connection speed for adslmax.  manual resets and/or drops in connection especially a few in short space of time can result in a drop in conenction speed causing a drop in profile.  this happens immediately conenction speed drops but after connection speed recovers it can take 3/5 days for your profile to correct itself for your current conenction speed.

that is why stable connection is best

without the results of btspeedtester diagnostic test I cannot say if your lower than normal download speed is due to a low profile or some other cause

Re: broadband speed almost halved?

you should not need to keep changing routers and doing so can cause the speed problem you have your laptop problem is a separate one which can be resolved separately

Re: broadband speed almost halved?

Hi Thanks for your furthet comments.

Is there anything I can do to get the diagnostics results?   I get a message saying I should run the test again to get the results but the same message comes up that it cant do any diagnostics - even though it reports it found an error.

Thanks
