download speed halved.

Hello, been having a few issues with my download speed the past few weeks, Upload and download were stable for months before hand however the past few weeks the hub has been dropping once or twice a day. It has now stopped dropping however the download speed seems to be stuck at half of what we were getting before, This normally would not be much of an issue but because we get such a bad download speed it is really affecting things and causing issues doing almost anything except loading web pages.

Quite some time ago we had the download speed brought up from 448 to around 900 which helped things but now its done the same thing to the download.

Re: download speed halved.

all your drops in connection and possibly manual resets trying to restore speed have resulted in your connection ending up in a banded profile  this should release in 7/10 days provided connection remains stable with no drops  noise margin should start to reduce with corresponding increases in down speed getting back to your previous speed

if no improvement after that time post back and can see if mods will help

Re: download speed halved.

Okay we will wait and see if it fixes itself, I haven't reset the router in a long time as I found out it was having the opposite effect. Fingers crossed as its already a slow enough line!

Sadly another drop... attached part of the log just incase it has anything useful, guess this will set back the waiting time for it to unlock.

never seen the connection request line before.

Re: download speed halved.

Hi @Alex_7753 and thanks for posting.

I'm sorry you're having problems with the connection. Have you checked for any noise on the line? If not can you try that by dialling 17070 option 2 on a corded phone?

Cheers

David

Re: download speed halved.

Just done the quite line again, nothing wrong that I can hear. Broadband has been fine for months then only lately just started slowing down. Not too sure if you can reset the line out of banding and back to fast latency?

Re: download speed halved.

Any reset is pointless until you are able to find the cause of the drops in connection and fix it

Re: download speed halved.

Fair enough, not too sure what else to check, only thing that stood out to me was the log when it disconnected that I posted before, not 100% sure what it means. Faceplate and filter is only a few months old after the last one was damaged by lightening, openreach engineer put in new socket, filtered faceplate and a new HH4.

Cant seem to find any re-occurring problem every time it disconnects the log is different. I used to have a netgear router before it failed, not sure if I should look into a new router to see if it’s any better? Don’t want to go spending money if I don’t have too since the hub was working perfectly fine before.

Re: download speed halved.

Even if you have a new faceplate I would try connecting to test socket with a filter and see if that helps stabilise your connection.  Without a stable connection you are not going to get improved speed and if your line was reset and still unstable you would be back where you are in a week or so

when in test socket I would check that there is no dial tone at any extension socket as that would be a problem

if that does not improve then you are going to need an engineer visit

Re: download speed halved.

Been using the test socket since the last drop, dropped again about 5 hours ago, down speed has increased from;

Down Rate=1152Kbps, Up Rate=983Kbps; SNR Margin Down=12.7dB, Up=5.7dB

to;

Down Rate=1215Kbps, Up Rate=971Kbps; SNR Margin Down=15.8dB, Up=6.1dB

here is the log from the disconnected, (not sure if this means it is out of banding now since the download increased just  tad)
