Hi Everyone,

Please remain vigilant and be on the lookout for scammers trying to exploit COVID with various ruses to try and trick people into sharing personal details.  One of the latest scams is

Warning over Covid-19 grant scam texts:

Scammers are sending text messages claiming to be from the Government informing people they have been awarded hundreds of pounds thanks to Covid-19. The text messages contain a link, which will take you to a site where you will be asked to hand over bank details and other personal information.  This is a scam so if you receive a text message entitled “COVID: The UK-GOV has issued a payment of £349.76 to all residents as part of its promise to battle COVID-19”, please do the following,

  • Forward the text to 7726 (an easy way to remember this is that it spells out SPAM on the keypad)
  • If a suspicious link was clicked or attachment opened/downloaded, then run a virus check on your computer
  • If bank details were given out, then contact your bank immediately and change your online banking passwords
