Re: IMAP servers on BTInternet email?

Hello, I'm having exactly the same issue and have also had no luck using the above settings (as messyhead). Has anyone got a definitive answer? Thanks in anticipation.

Re: IMAP servers on BTInternet email?

Hi I am looking at getting a blackberry and have the same problem.  I have tried on my pc to connect it using IMAP but when choosing imap.mail.yahoo.com it is not authenticating.  I have a btinternet.com address.

Thanks

Re: IMAP servers on BTInternet email?

I posted this last week on another thread without getting a response so I'll try here. It's not the answer, but I hope it will prompt one from someone who knows about these things.

I had BTanywhere and a HTC S620 and it accessed my mail and kept in sync. I've now got an HTC desire (not on BT) and I can't get it to work in he same way.

In summary a working HTC S620 is (auto) configured as follows:

i/c mail server

address -  imap.mail.yahoo.com

account type - IMAP4 (not changeable)

Username & password - xxxx.@btinternet.com & my normal password

o/g (SMTP) mail server

address - smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com

outgoing server requires authentication

Username & password - same as sending

does NOT require SSL for i/c mail

does NOT require SSL for o/g mail

I can only get the desire to work using POP - auto configured

i/c server

Protocol - POP

address - pop3.btinternet.com

o/g (SMTP) mail server

address - mail.btinternet.com

login required

I believe I need to setup the account on the desire as type 'exchange active sync' but need to correctly complete the following that I have so far failed todo:

email address - ok that's easy

server address - hmm - i/c or o/g - tried both

Domain - help... tried btinternet

Username - is that my email without the @btinternet.com?

server required ssl - which i reckon should be no

I keep getting failed to connect to the exch server as i step through the setup process

I have now read that the issue is with the client (mail app on the phone) in that a non-standard IMAP command needs to be sent before login is done, namely: “ID ("GUID" "1")”.

sooo - any ideas?

Re: IMAP servers on BTInternet email?

Sorry to drag this one up. but I am trying to access my emails using imap from my laptop using Mozzilla Thurnderbird and can't send messages.

Does anyone know what the outgoing server settings need to be?

Re: IMAP servers on BTInternet email?

Apologies if this information has already been posted before.

For basic BT Yahoo Mail IMAP information.

Login to BT Yahoo Mail.

Select Options>More Options from the top right.

Select Mail for Mobile on the left.

This should take you to http://uk.mobile.yahoo.com/mail

Select the IMAP tab in the middle of the page.

The basic settings are:-

Incoming

Server   = imap.mail.yahoo.com

Type     = IMAP

Username = xxxx@yahoo.com   (xxxx@btinternet.com also worked fine for me)

Password = as normal

Security = SSL

Port     = 993

Outgoing

Server   = smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Type     = SMTP

Username = xxxx@yahoo.com   (xxxx@btinternet.com also worked fine for me)

Password = as normal

Security = SSL

Port     = 465

I have successfully used these settings to access my @btinternet.com email accounts via IMAP using both Thunderbird on a laptop and the standard mail client on an HTC Desire mobile phone.

Note: There was one issue with the phone mail client storing duplicates of sent messages. This was solved on the HTC Desire by downloading and using the free K-9 mail client from the Android Market.

Hope this helps.
